With 75 years of experience providing contract furniture, refurbishing, and logistics expertise to prestigious clients in numerous industries throughout the mid-Atlantic and northeastern regions, COFCO joins the Henricksen community with aligned business values. Together, the companies solidify their commitment to building and maintaining long-lasting relationships with clients and manufacturers while investing in new technologies and capabilities, providing the best service experience in the country. As of April 1, 2022, COFCO will officially change its name to COFCO, A Henricksen Company. COFCO—which was founded in Philadelphia and recently expanded to Washington, D.C.—has a long and storied history of providing customers with exceptional service and outcomes, especially in the corporate, public sector, and healthcare spaces. Among the high-profile projects it has completed, COFCO recently completed outfitting the entirety of The Pavilion, a new 1.5-million-square-foot, 17-story facility at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, the second-largest hospital in the country. COFCO’s nimble and multidisciplinary staff combined with Henricksen’s prowess will allow the resulting team to provide additional resources and expertise for clients as they continue to navigate the challenges presented by the pandemic and the changing nature of workplaces. - Celebrating Women's History Month with Annie Lee from ENVCelebrating Women's History Month with Annie Lee from ENV
This Women's History Month, Henricksen honors Annie Lee, Principal of Interior Design at ENV, who is inspired by her grandmother's legacy of resilience and leadership. News + Insights Celebrating Women's History Month with Annie Lee from ENV This Women's History Month, Henricksen honors Annie Lee, Principal of Interior Design at ENV, who is inspired by her grandmother's legacy of resilience and leadership. Mar 25, 2025 This Women's History Month, we're honored to celebrate Annie Lee, IIDA, NCIDQ, WELL AP, LEED AP ID+C, and Principal of Interior Design at ENV. Annie's strength and vision are deeply rooted in the remarkable women in her life, especially her grandmother, who broke barriers in early 20th-century Korea. Her grandmother's story is one of unwavering resilience and courage — from secretly teaching herself to read to building a business that supported her six children after becoming a young widow. She led with ingenuity, warmth, and a deep commitment to genuine connections. Here's how Annie shares the story of her incredible grandmother: "My family has been blessed with strong, impactful women leaders - my mom, aunts, grandmothers, and cousins - many of whom are owners, founders, teachers, and directors, guiding their teams to succeed. While they have all influenced me in one way or another, I would like to spotlight one woman, my paternal grandmother. Her story is one of ambition, perseverance, and a profound need to prevail in an unstable, harsh, and often discouraging environment. These qualities shaped her life and left a lasting imprint on me and everyone around her. My grandmother, born in 1912, overcame extraordinary challenges during Korea’s tumultuous times, including the Japanese occupation and the Korean War. Against societal norms, she taught herself to read and write in secret, later becoming a widow who tirelessly ensured her six children received a college education. She built a thriving Korean dress business, traveling far for the finest materials and managing every detail with determination and skill. Her warmth, resilience, and sharp instincts left an enduring impression on everyone who knew her. Her legacy lives on in how I approach my life. I dress with intention, am fully present in my interactions, and always lead with kindness. She taught me that leadership comes not from dominating others but from empowering them and creating genuine connections. My grandmother was an innovator, a mentor, and an unwavering force of strength. As I reflect on her incredible life during Women's History Month, I am reminded of the countless women who, like my grandmother, quietly shape the world in their unique ways," explained Annie. Annie takes the lessons she's learned from her grandmother to heart, bringing intention and grace to her leadership role. To Annie, even small gestures like a heartfelt handshake can speak volumes about connection and shared respect. Her passion for uplifting others shines through in her work at ENV, particularly in her newest initiative, ENV U (ENV University). Launching this April, ENV U will provide a platform for team members to share knowledge and grow together, building a culture of collaboration and mutual respect. ENV U ensures that every team member has the opportunity to shine, just as Annie's grandmother did for others throughout her life. Annie's story and her grandmother's legacy remind us that authentic leadership starts with empathy and a dedication to lifting others. Her vision and heart inspire those around her, and she continues to redefine what it means to lead. Here's to Annie Lee and all the incredible women who change the world with their courage, strength, and compassion! - Cedarburg School District
Cedarburg School District completed a $59.8M renovation to update its facilities, focusing on growth and flexible learning environments. Henricksen provided furniture for improved collaboration. Project Experience Cedarburg School District Cedarburg, WI Project Stats Completed 2021 Location Cedarburg, WI Square Footage 48,000 Partners & Manufacturers SFI | Systems Furniture Installation, Groth Design Group, Allsteel, Hi5, Humanscale, National, Palmer Hamilton, SitOnIt, SitOnIt Seating, VS America, Wisconsin Bench Manufacturers Used The Cedarburg School District, comprised of three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school, worked with CG Schmidt to complete a thorough master planning process resulting in a $59.8M referendum passed in 2018 to renovate these facilities. Despite a competitive bid process, Henricksen was selected as the District's furniture partner based on experience, price, and an existing trusted relationship; Henricksen had previously worked with the District to update some of their old furniture to more ergonomic and flexible options. The main priorities for the renovations were to manage an increase in enrollment, develop the teaching and learning environments to be more flexible and ergonomic, and enhance safety and security. In addition, the district wanted to create a set of furniture and design standards that could be used across all the schools for consistency.“One of the goals was to create flexible learning spaces, and that’s super dependent on furniture,” said Kirstin Collins, Director of Technology and Assessment, Cedarburg School District. “We also wanted to create a standards catalog, so that when it comes time to purchase again, we know what to buy and going forward everything will look the same.” “There was a lack of consistency across the grade levels and buildings, meaning you couldn’t exchange furniture across those spaces,” said Todd Bugnacki, Superintendent, Cedarburg School District. Most of the existing furniture was difficult to move and reconfigure, offering teachers and students little flexibility.“It was vintage,” said Collins, “A lot of pieces were not in the best of shape and not quite ergonomically correct or the right size for the classrooms.” The planning team attended EdSpaces, an educational furniture tradeshow and conference where they saw presentations from different furniture manufacturers, which helped them narrow in on the types of furniture that they wanted to bid as part of the project. After being selected as the furniture provider, Henricksen helped finish the overall project programming. “They jumped in and gathered more extensive program information from teachers and staff,” said Cindy Gall, Director of Interior Design, Groth Design Group, “They brought in a variety of test furniture and gathered feedback. They also assisted us with specifications, drawings and renderings.” Cindy Gall, Director of Interior Design, Groth Design Group adds, “Henricksen provides exemplary service to our clients. I feel 100% confident bringing them to a bidding list or an interview. Their experience is exuded through and through. I feel great when they are explaining their process to a client, and I know that we have the same vision. They make sure they are an extension of me and my design team.” At the elementary schools, furniture was provided for the library media center (LMC), classrooms, offices, and maker spaces. At Webster Middle School there was an update to the cafeteria space, an office remodel and a new LMC. The High School renovation supplied new classrooms for math and English, small group collaboration spaces, a new cafeteria, a whole new tech education department, new art rooms, maker space, and robotics area. The district has now created a playbook outlining what they were trying to achieve with the renovations. It spells out the “why” around flexible and moveable furniture and will offer teachers templated layouts for certain scenarios, depending on what they are trying to achieve in the classroom. “The book of standards is helping,” said Collins. “It solves the purpose of repairs by specifying who we contact and spelling out the make and model of the furniture.” This enables the new grounds manager or any staff to be able to go the book and see who to contact and what to buy. In addition, standard furniture selections are listed as a resource for teachers and staff to reference when new furniture is needed. All the new furniture is flexible, ensuring there are size options for kids of all grades. Even the library shelves have wheels and can be moved. It has allowed the staff to create a culture and climate that didn’t exist in the prior environment. “We were looking at a way to create an environment that was fully inclusive and provide teachers with greater opportunities to move the student achievement needle,” said Bugnacki. The new spaces allow teachers to explore and better meet the needs of the students. “I see kids doing exactly what we wanted them to do – collaborating and breaking down silos,” said Bugnacki. - US Oncology
Henricksen transforms US Oncology’s Virginia cancer centers into modern, patient-centered spaces through tailored solutions, overcoming challenges, and building trust for future collaborations. Project Experience US Oncology Multiple Locations Across Virginia Project Stats Completed 2024 Location Multiple Locations Across Virginia Square Footage Partners & Manufacturers HORD COPLAN MACHT, IOA Healthcare Manufacturers Used US Oncology, a division of McKesson, undertook significant renovations and expansions at multiple Virginia-based cancer centers, including Arlington, Fair Oaks, and Gainesville. The goal was to create modern, patient-centered environments that provided comfort and functionality. The primary objectives were to transition to updated facilities that reflected US Oncology’s commitment to providing compassionate care while supporting staff well-being. Each center presented unique challenges. For Arlington and Gainesville, renovations and expansions required nearly all-new furniture selections. Fair Oaks moved to a new floor, demanding a tailored approach to the layout and furniture needs. Across all centers, the goal was to create warm, inviting environments that avoided a clinical feel. It was important to the team to maintain the aesthetic cohesion essential to preserving US Oncology's brand identity while also providing the flexibility for regional personalization. The design team focused on incorporating biophilic elements, such as curved walls and warm wood tones, to soften the space. Cleanability and durability were essential, especially for high-touch surfaces like arm caps and tabletops in patient areas. For staff, ergonomic solutions like sit-to-stand desks were prioritized to support comfort and flexibility throughout the workday. Henricksen collaborated closely with US Oncology and their design team to deliver tailored furniture solutions that met these objectives. Inside patient-facing areas, the focus was on creating comfortable and visually appealing spaces. Lounge seating with solid-surface arm caps and tables was specifically selected for its durability and ease of cleaning. Waiting areas incorporated smaller lounge settings to break up traditional rows of seating, enhancing comfort and reducing the sterile atmosphere. IOA recliners were chosen for infusion areas to ensure patient comfort, complemented by divider screens to enhance privacy and create a more personalized care environment. Workspaces for staff featured sit-to-stand desks in both private offices and open research areas, reflecting US Oncology’s emphasis on flexibility and ergonomic support. Henricksen also explored innovative options for touchdown areas, introducing wall-mounted sit-to-stand desks to further accommodate evolving workstyles. The design palette used blue tones as a unifying theme to both represent their brand and serve as a counteracting palette to the clinical associations of red. Curved transitions between flooring and other architectural elements visually shortened long travel paths, further contributing to the centers' welcoming and patient-focused atmosphere. Henricksen’s team helped expedite delivery dates despite manufacturer delays and managed complex day-two add-ons to ensure all items arrived on time. Their onsite support during installation ensured that even unforeseen adjustments were seamlessly handled. “David is always there when I need him,” said Samantha Rose, Certified Interior Designer, HORD COPLAN MACHT of Henricksen Account Manager David Marks. “We have developed such a strong system and trust with Henricksen that I don’t feel the need for extensive oversight anymore when they’re involved. It’s a comfort level I don’t get with other vendors.” The furniture selections transformed each center into a welcoming, functional space that supports patient care and staff productivity. The combination of durable, easy-to-clean furniture, ergonomic workspaces, and biophilic design elements ensured that the centers met their operational and aesthetic goals. The Gainesville location, for example, faced challenges with tight timelines and additional last-minute requirements, yet all items were delivered on schedule. This success reinforced Henricksen’s ability to exceed client expectations, earning their trust for future projects. “The Henricksen team truly went above and beyond,” said Rose. “Their flexibility, proactive approach, and ability to navigate unforeseen challenges made all the difference. I know I can count on them to deliver every time.” Due to the success of these projects, Henricksen will also be supporting US Oncology with eight additional cancer centers across the country. - Northwestern University James L. Allen Center
The James L. Allen Center at Northwestern University went through renovations resulting in positive feedback from guests and staff. Henricksen played a crucial role in the project. Project Experience Northwestern University James L. Allen Center Evanston, IL Project Stats Completed 2022 Location Evanston, IL Square Footage Partners & Manufacturers Manufacturers Used The James L. Allen Center houses the Executive MBA Program and Executive Education programs for the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. The building includes two lobbies, classrooms, dining spaces, an auditorium, and 150 guest rooms that are used by lecturers and visiting executives. The facility had not been renovated in several years and the furniture was starting to show signs of wear. “We wanted a new and updated look,” said Dan McCrudden, Senior Director of Facilities, “to make it feel like a conference center or hotel that these executives were used to visiting.” The Allen Center partnered with Henricksen to select and install new furnishings for the guest rooms and lobbies. As part of the discovery process, Henricksen toured them through three hotels so they could evaluate the furniture options available to them. “We looked at the Essex hotel,” said McCrudden, “They had just remodeled it and we liked the look and feel of the bedrooms, so we wanted to model our space after that, but within our own budget.” The furniture they chose for these updates was Kimball Hospitality. It had a high-end, modern look that lightened up the space and yet still fit within their project budget. One of the things they liked at the Essex and wanted to incorporate into their own guest rooms were the platform beds. “It was much more modern than what we had,” said Steve Peavler, Associate Director of Facilities. “We replaced the big wood headboards,” said McCrudden “The rooms were very heavy, all wood and a more traditional, antiquated look.” Like many projects that occurred during COVID-19, long lead-times were expected. What came as a surprise, however, was an additional delay once the product arrived in country. “We understood lead times would be long because of the pandemic,” said McCrudden. “But we had a certain expectation that when it was finally shipped there would be no more delays. Then it turned out that our product was on the container ship that got stuck in the Chesapeake Bay.” This unique delay fostered innovative and quick thinking by the project team. “In order to keep business continuity, we had made the decision to store the existing furniture in a different building during the whole process,” said Peavler. Because of the additional delay, they brought the old furniture back to the Allen Center and re-installed it, which allowed them to stay open and operate while waiting for the new pieces to arrive. “Henricksen was limited in what they could do about the long lead times,” said McCrudden, “But the communication between Henricksen and Kellogg was great, so at least we always knew what the expected timeline was.” The guest room furniture was eventually installed in two phases of 75 rooms at a time. Henricksen worked closely with the Allen Center to ensure the space could still operate while the installation was taking place. the team also had to pivot around the lobby furniture selections. “We actually went with off the shelf pieces that were readily available, but still met the design requirements,” said Peavler. The completed project has breathed new life into the Allen Center. The overall feedback from guests and staff has been positive. People are surprised and enthusiastic about the lightness and comment that the bedrooms look nicely updated. “Henricksen is a great partner,” said McCrudden, “This was probably the most challenging project we’ve done together, but they are still our favorite furniture supplier.” Share Copy link LinkedIn Facebook Pinterest Start Your Project First name* Last name* Email* Company Phone Subscribe to Our Newsletter* Yes No Location (City) Location (State)* State Upload a File (if needed) Upload a File Message* Submit

The ideal space needed secure, easily accessible parking, access to healthy food choices, outdoor space, and a gym. Most importantly, it had to reflect our commitment to sustainability, adaptability, and innovation. The bar was high, but we found the perfect home in The TractorWorks Building. Located at 800 Washington Avenue North in the historic North Loop, TractorWorks blends a rich history dating back to 1902 with forward-thinking workspace innovation. Originally repurposed in the 1960s and renovated in 2018, it stands as one of the first creative commercial buildings in the area, making it an ideal setting for our new showroom. Relocating to North Loop came with challenges, but our team remained committed to cost-neutrality while investing in new technologies to support our hybrid workforce. We balanced our vision for a sophisticated space with sustainability efforts, creatively reusing 60% of our existing products to keep materials out of landfills. By integrating products from nearly twenty manufacturers, we crafted an adaptable environment that fosters both collaboration and focused work. The result is a maker’s space—a hub for partners and clients to explore, learn, experiment, and grow. Beyond aesthetics and function, our commitment to health and well-being has been recognized on a global scale. We are thrilled to announce that Henricksen’s Minneapolis showroom has been awarded the prestigious Fitwel 1 Star Rating certification. This internationally respected standard highlights our efforts in optimizing building design and operations to promote physical, mental, and social well-being. Fitwel, the leading certification system for healthy buildings, underscores our mission to create workplaces that enhance well-being. Our success was made possible by our dedicated team, including Debra Barnes, Principal, Vice President + General Manager, and Honey Ribar, Minneapolis Showroom Coordinator, alongside our trusted partners—Cushman & Wakefield, JLL, HGA, and Mission Construction. - Empowering Futures Through Education and Partnership at The Joseph SchoolEmpowering Futures Through Education and Partnership at The Joseph School
Henricksen’s Furniture Donation Creates Vibrant Classrooms and Inspires Hope at The Joseph School News + Insights Empowering Futures Through Education and Partnership at The Joseph School Henricksen’s Furniture Donation Creates Vibrant Classrooms and Inspires Hope at The Joseph School Apr 7, 2025 In the aftermath of Haiti’s devastating 2010 earthquake, Jim Bryson traveled from Nashville to Port-au-Prince, witnessing firsthand the overwhelming loss and need for educational opportunities, especially for orphaned children. What began as a vision to provide secondary education for orphans soon evolved into something even greater — the founding of The Joseph School (TJS). Among those deeply moved by this mission was Bildad Michel, a young Haitian studying at Cumberland University. Growing up in Haiti, he knew the struggles children faced — long days of chores, raising siblings, and few opportunities for formal education. Inspired by TJS’s mission, he convinced the board that instead of starting with seventh grade, they should focus on younger children. The vision shifted, and in September 2015, The Joseph School opened with two classrooms, 30 students, and two teachers. From its inception, the school had to make do with limited resources, including old, worn-out furniture that often needed repairs. For many students, simply having a table to write on was a luxury. Michel, now the Director of Operations at TJS, recalled growing up in overcrowded classrooms with three students sharing a single bench or even sitting on the floor to take notes. “I used to stand in school because we didn’t have enough seats,” he shared. That changed when Henricksen stepped in. Michael Moore, the GM of the Henricksen Tennessee office, was already involved with the organization and helped to facilitate a generous donation of durable, high-quality tables and chairs built to last. For the students, this was more than just furniture; it was a symbol of investment in their future. For Henricksen “We believe in the power furniture has to transform a space,” said Moore, “And this donation perfectly supported that core value.” The impact on the school was profound. The collaborative classroom design encouraged leadership and teamwork. Four students could sit together, learning and problem-solving as a unit. “We don’t just have a school in Haiti,” Michel said. “We now have a movement.” The aesthetic of the furniture is also a nod to the school’s namesake, Joseph. In the Bible, Joseph's coat of many colors was a gift from his father. “It’s the Joseph school, the coat of many colors,” said Michel, “When you go to that classroom you see a chair that is green or yellow or red.” Today, The Joseph School continues to grow, adding a high school to its curriculum. As the school expands, Henricksen’s contributions remain vital. “The furniture is so impactful especially when you move into high school,” said Cynthia Smith, a leader at TJS. “You can reconfigure the furniture in a million ways, desks facing forward or in a quad, and we can continue the established learning model as the kids grow.” For Michel, the transformation is both personal and inspiring. “I’m a little jealous of these kids,” he admits with a smile. “They get to learn in an environment where they’re truly valued.” From a dream born out of tragedy to a thriving school changing lives, The Joseph School — and the generosity of its partners like Henricksen — proves that education is the foundation of hope. “I just want to say a huge thank you to Henricksen for helping make the dream come true,” said Michel. “I have no words for the wonderful partnership.” Share Copy link Facebook LinkedIn Pinterest More News + Insights Designing for Healing: How Henricksen is Shaping the Future of Behavioral Health Spaces February 13, 2026 Discover how behavioral health environments balance safety, comfort, and healing—featuring real project insights, lessons learned, and innovative solutions shaping modern care spaces. News + Insights Download Henricksen's Beyond the Desk White Paper In just 20 years, the world has transformed. We have supercomputers in our pockets and remote work is common. Yet, in K-12 classrooms, it still feels like a 1950s sitcom with old setups. Sep 17, 2025 Think about how much the world has changed in just the last 20 years. We carry supercomputers in our pockets, remote work and learning are now the norm, and we can ask a robot to write our grocery list. But walk into a typical K-12 classroom and... déjà vu. The setup still mirrors something out of a 1950s sitcom: rows of hardback desks all facing the front, where the teacher holds court. It’s not that the old model didn’t work, it’s just that teaching and learning have evolved. Dramatically. And if the goal is to prepare students for a future that’s faster, more connected, and more complex than ever before, the spaces where they learn need to evolve, too. Unlike the classrooms of old, today’s classrooms need to be built with choice in mind, and flexibility and mobility are critical components. Providing different types of seating and tables in K-12 classrooms, libraries and cafeterias, as well as collaborative and lounge areas, are just a couple of ways furniture can support the modern classroom. Classrooms also must support two essential pillars: 21st Century Learning and Accessibility. The Framework for 21st Century Learning, developed by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21), lays it out clearly. To thrive in today’s world, students need to build mastery around what educators call the “4 Cs”: Critical thinking Communication Collaboration Creativity But innovation can’t stop at the teaching approach. To truly support every student, we also need to make sure the environment itself doesn’t hold them back. That’s where accessibility comes in — not just physical accessibility, but cognitive and emotional accessibility, too.
