- Minnesota Lottery Headquarters
The Minnesota Lottery’s renovated headquarters features a collaborative, light-filled design with flexible workspaces, an expanded break room, and furniture inspired by local Minnesota roots. Project Experience Minnesota Lottery Headquarters Roseville, MN Project Stats Completed 2025 Location Roseville, MN Square Footage 60,000 Partners & Manufacturers BDH Manufacturers Used The Minnesota Lottery’s 60,000-square-foot Roseville headquarters recently underwent a comprehensive renovation focused on creating a more supportive and collaborative work environment. Henricksen worked hand in hand with the project team to reimagine how furniture could enhance daily operations, foster teamwork, and encourage authentic connections among employees. A thoughtfully planned layout by BDH placed enclosed spaces at the center of the floor plan, maximizing access to natural light along the perimeter. Flexible workstations, collaborative furnishings, and comfortable lounge seating were introduced to support the way teams actually work. The break room was expanded to nearly 1,000 square feet and now features adaptable seating and tables for everything from casual coffee breaks to all-hands meetings. The furniture selections drew inspiration from the Minnesota Lottery’s strong local roots. Warm wood tones evoke the feeling of a lakeside dock, while soft seating and communal pieces help create a welcoming, grounded atmosphere throughout the headquarters. - Celebrating Black History Month with Damarius CruzCelebrating Black History Month with Damarius Cruz
Spotlighting Damarius Cruz this Black History Month as he shares his journey, inspiration, and commitment to uplifting community. News + Insights Celebrating Black History Month with Damarius Cruz Spotlighting Damarius Cruz this Black History Month as he shares his journey, inspiration, and commitment to uplifting community. Feb 5, 2026 This Black History Month, we’re proud to spotlight Damarius Cruz, Project Manager in Henricksen’s Minneapolis office. For Damarius, the month is both a celebration and a call to action, a time to honor culture, reflect on Black history, and intentionally support Black-owned businesses in his community. He sees it as an ongoing journey that continues to shape who we are today. As Damarius has grown personally and professionally, his perspective has deepened. “Learning more about our shared history is an ongoing journey,” he says. “It’s a chance to reset, reconnect with your roots, and recognize both how far we’ve come and how much more there is to do. Two historical figures stand out as sources of inspiration: Harriet Tubman and Ruby Bridges. Damarius reflects on Tubman’s courage, not only for escaping slavery but also for repeatedly returning to help others find freedom, risking her own life in the process. Ruby Bridges’ story carries equal weight, as her bravery at such a young age helped break barriers that opened doors for generations. With a background in construction, Damarius brings hands-on experience to his role, along with a people-first mindset shaped by collaboration and community. His advice to young Black professionals is simple and powerful: be yourself, stay authentic, and be confident in who you are. Outside of work, Damarius supports nonprofits, attends community events, and looks forward to mentoring youth through basketball. He also cherishes time with his daughter, Kailani, enjoying the outdoors and taking walks together with their dog, Coast. One business especially close to home this Black History Month is his partner’s massage therapy practice, Tranquil Massage & Wellness (follow along at https://www.instagram.com/tranquilmassagewellness/?hl=en), which he proudly supports as part of his commitment to uplifting Black entrepreneurs. For Damarius, Black History Month isn’t limited to February. It’s about honoring culture year-round, supporting community, and continuing to share stories that matter. At Henricksen, we’re grateful for voices like Damarius’s and proud to celebrate the perspectives and people who strengthen our community. Celebrating Tiffany Edwards this Black History Month as she shares her journey, inspirations, and why representation, connection, and showing up fully truly matter. News + Insights Celebrating Black History Month with Tiffany Edwards Celebrating Tiffany Edwards this Black History Month as she shares her journey, inspirations, and why representation, connection, and showing up fully truly matter. Feb 11, 2026 This Black History Month, we’re proud to spotlight Tiffany Edwards, Project Coordinator, who has been part of the Henricksen team since 2017. Tiffany began her journey with Henricksen in our New York office before relocating to Atlanta, and her experience reflects the importance of belonging, representation, and being able to show up fully as yourself. For Tiffany, Black History Month is a time to honor the trailblazers who came before her and opened doors. Each year, she finds herself learning something new about Black leaders who shaped history. One current source of inspiration is Michelle Obama, whose leadership Tiffany admires for its strength, poise, and authenticity. She shared how Michelle Obama’s willingness to be open about mental health helped normalize meaningful conversations for black women, showing that strength and vulnerability can coexist. For Tiffany, progress grows through education, exposure, and representation. She values opportunities to strengthen diversity across teams and leadership, and pointed to recurring cultural initiatives, such as potlucks in the New York office, as examples of how shared stories and traditions can bring people together and foster deeper connection and understanding. This Black History Month, Tiffany and her family are honoring history by visiting the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Museum, and she believes the celebration should extend beyond a single month. From schools highlighting leaders of color year-round to workplaces consistently uplifting diverse voices, Tiffany reminds us that representation matters more than we sometimes realize, especially until you experience it yourself. We’re grateful Tiffany shared her perspective and proud to have her as part of the Henricksen team. - Designing for Healing: How Henricksen is Shaping the Future of Behavioral Health Spaces Designing for Healing: How Henricksen is Shaping the Future of Behavioral Health Spaces
Discover how behavioral health environments balance safety, comfort, and healing — featuring real project insights, lessons learned, and innovative solutions shaping modern care spaces. News + Insights Designing for Healing: How Henricksen is Shaping the Future of Behavioral Health Spaces Discover how behavioral health environments balance safety, comfort, and healing — featuring real project insights, lessons learned, and innovative solutions shaping modern care spaces. Feb 13, 2026 When people think of healthcare settings, images of hospitals or doctor’s offices often come to mind. Behavioral healthcare settings, which are uniquely designed to support mental health, are often overlooked. These spaces move away from the conventions of traditional healthcare environments by creating a home-like, supportive atmosphere for patients receiving mental health care. Despite their importance, the United States now faces a significant shortage of behavioral healthcare facilities. According to The Commonwealth Fund, provider shortages are a major barrier to treatment, especially in rural areas. The U.S. currently needs an estimated 7,400 additional mental health providers to meet demand. Substance use treatment is particularly limited, with wait times for some services stretching weeks or even months, especially for children on Medicaid. People in urgent need of behavioral health support can spend hours or even days in emergency departments before receiving care. Initiatives to address this growing need deserve greater focus, placing the mental health of Americans at the forefront. At Henricksen, behavioral health projects are among the most meaningful work we undertake. While they may not always be the most glamorous, they carry significant purpose and impact for both our team and the individuals we serve. In these projects, our top priority is always creating environments that prioritize safety, comfort, and healing for those receiving mental health care. Read on for an inside look at the complexities of behavioral health projects and how careful planning promotes client safety, wellbeing, and project efficiency. The team shares lessons learned from past projects and how these insights continue to shape and strengthen our approach today. Behind the Scenes: Sweeten Creek Mental Health & Wellness Center Despite the complexity of behavioral health projects, the purpose of preserving safety for staff and patients is what keeps our team committed. One project that stands out is our work on the Sweeten Creek Mental Health & Wellness Center. This was the second of three collaborative partnerships tied to HCA facilities, and stood apart for the unique challenges that required thoughtful, creative problem-solving from our team. For this project, furniture in unsupervised or high-risk areas was designed to be filled with sand, making each piece heavier and more stable. This approach helps prevent furniture from being moved, lifted, or used in unsafe ways, while maintaining a residential sensibility often lost with floor-mounted alternatives. Kaitlyn Compton, Senior Design Lead at Henricksen, sheds light on the challenge of ballasting furniture: “We needed 72,000 pounds of dry sand, not something you can just pick up at Home Depot in the middle of winter. The team got creative and sourced it locally from the French Broad River, making it even more meaningful to use materials from the community to help furnish a facility serving that same community.” But the team’s challenges did not end with the sand. In many ways, that was where they truly began. Without a full understanding of the ballasted furniture, installers dragged the sand-filled pieces across the floors, causing damage beneath the steel glides. Our team removed the glides, reordered replacements, and refinished the flooring ahead of opening. This experience proved instrumental in shaping future projects. Henricksen teams collaborated with marketing to create a clear signage system indicating that ballasted items must be lifted, a solution that has since been helpful across subsequent projects as well. Sweeten Creek and facilities like it are more important now than ever. According to Mental Health America, “The prevalence of mental health concerns among adults has not changed from 2021 to 2024. In 2024, 23.40% of adults in the U.S. experienced any mental illness (AMI) in the past year, equivalent to over 60 million people.” By prioritizing behavioral healthcare facilities like this one, we help ensure more people receive the support they truly need. Behind the Scenes: HCA Healthcare Behavioral Health Behavioral health projects often introduce a unique set of challenges, which our team addresses through a combination of collaboration, problem-solving, and detail-oriented design thinking. Trent Quillin, Director of Project Integration, reflects on the team’s recent work with HCA Healthcare Behavioral Health where manufacturer collaboration was critical, and where creative design solutions ultimately enhanced both patient safety and experience. HCA Healthcare Behavioral Health, one of our largest behavioral health clients, approached us after growing frustrated with existing product standards across multiple facilities. The challenge went beyond simply swapping products, and was indicative of broader logistical issues related to the incumbent manufacturer. These included extended lead times, high production and freight costs, and repeated delays, all of which threatened overall project timelines. As Trent explains, “We collaborated closely with our trusted manufacturing partners to explore and eventually deliver better solutions. Spec Furniture, one of our key partners, went above and beyond. While their standard portfolio didn’t initially include critical patient room products, they not only developed these items to meet our client’s needs, but also incorporated them into their standard product line. This level of responsiveness and innovation exemplifies the power of true partnership, delivering comprehensive, systemwide solutions as opposed to isolated fixes.” Another solutions-oriented design session presented a different challenge: creating adolescent group therapy rooms that were multi-functional for a wide range of therapeutic needs. “The goal was to create a space that serviced a diverse range of patients while feeling less institutional, and more therapeutic,” Trent shares. “Through collaborative discussions, we determined that incorporating a mix of seating styles and materials would provide flexibility and comfort. Because the space was always staffed, we had greater freedom to introduce design elements that balanced safety with warmth. Working alongside the client’s art consultant, we carefully selected colors that supported a calming, healing environment — bringing their vision to life.” As behavioral health design and space planning continues to evolve, emerging trends are influencing the ways in which projects are planned and delivered. According to Behavioral Health News, increased integration of behavioral and physical health services and a growing emphasis on youth mental health are redefining how care environments must function. By expanding product standards through close manufacturer collaboration, we reduced delays and improved overall operational efficiency, a critical consideration as integrated care models increase demand on facilities teams. Meanwhile, recent collaborative typology visioning for adolescent group therapy rooms reflects a renewed focus on youth mental health, and the prioritization of flexibility in a more therapeutic, non-institutional atmosphere that promotes emotional safety. Together, these projects highlight the role of strategic adaptability and strong team relationships with manufacturers and design partners in resolving the experiential and logistic challenges associated with behavioral health environments. Navigating Challenges: Standards, Approvals, and Project Hurdles As a contract furniture dealer, our team is not on site for every project, which makes clear communication essential. Each step must be thoughtfully explained, and everyone involved needs to understand why the details matter. In behavioral health projects, considerations extend far beyond aesthetics and function. Safety is layered into every decision and requires constant balance. Even elements that appear secure can introduce risk if they are not carefully designed and implemented. Floor mounting may sound straightforward, but it locks in decisions about how a given space functions long term. Once a piece is floor mounted, there is no easy reversal. Flooring is cut, holes are drilled, and flexibility is lost. When discussing preferences, Kaitlyn Compton shared that the team typically recommends ballasting over floor mounting because it allows for greater mobility and future change, while also feeling less institutional. From a logistical standpoint, behavioral healthcare projects present significant challenges due to the need for highly specialized products. Trent Quillin highlighted this complexity, noting that behavioral health projects require ligature-resistant fixtures, tamper-proof hardware, and durable finishes, all of which often have limited availability and longer lead times. The Henricksen team addresses these challenges through early engagement with manufacturers to confirm stock and lead times, along with strong vendor relationships that help keep critical project timelines on track. Another key consideration is the approval process for behavioral health projects. This process is rigorous, as these environments must meet strict safety standards: including anti-ligature requirements, fire codes, and infection control measures. As a result, product selection is limited to items that meet these criteria, which also impacts project timelines. Working within a customer’s standard product lists helps streamline approvals, as all items have already been vetted for performance and durability. Looking Ahead: Innovating Solutions for Behavioral Health Projects According to the National Library of Medicine, there is increasing recognition that mental health facilities must balance safety with a therapeutic atmosphere. At Henricksen, we are not just a dealership; we take pride in acting as problem solvers and collaborative partners, working with facilities to create peaceful, supportive environments. Every behavioral health project provides valuable insights that help us continuously improve and deliver better outcomes for our clients. Lessons from past and current projects continue to shape our approach in key ways. We initiate compliance checks early to avoid costly redesigns, maintain proactive communication with installation teams to align on proper installation, timelines, and safe site conditions, and provide customers and end users with both care and maintenance guidelines to maximize the longevity and performance of their furniture. These practices ensure that each new project benefits from accumulated experience, resulting in safer, more efficient, and more sustainable environments. For us, safety is not just a box to check, it is embedded in every decision. We balance durability with comfort to create therapeutic spaces, vet every product for compliance, develop customized solutions for varying risk levels, and ensure anchoring and assembly meet anti-tamper standards. Behavioral health spaces are just one of the many types of projects we take on at Henricksen, but they hold a special place in our hearts because of the meaningful impact they have. Through careful planning, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement, we create environments that are safe, durable, and designed to truly support healing. - Hotel Santa Barbara
Henricksen partnered on Hotel Santa Barbara’s renovation, blending Spanish Revival charm with modern luxury to create warm, memorable guest experiences rooted in local culture. Project Experience Hotel Santa Barbara Santa Barbara Project Stats Completed 2025 Location Santa Barbara Square Footage 35,000 SF Partners & Manufacturers CIX Direct, Urban Evolutions, BDL Lighting, Arjays Window Fashions, Concepts in Art – Jenny Gaffney, Local Artist – Peter Horjus Manufacturers Used Hendricks Commercial Properties expanded its commitment to memorable guest experiences with the acquisition of Hotel Santa Barbara. The boutique hotel’s rich history, dating back to 1876, and its legacy as a vibrant and iconic community hub inspired a highly collaborative and complex renovation to welcome a new chapter of style and hospitality. “The goal of the renovation was to be stewards of the hotel’s legacy, staying true to the distinct architectural history of the building while ushering in a new era,” said Sue Griffin, the vice president of interior design for Hendricks Commercial Properties. “We looked at every detail through the lens of the guest and what will make their stay memorable. We wanted a timeless design that seamlessly blends the beloved cultural nuances of Santa Barbara with expectations of modern luxury.” Hendricks entrusted Henricksen to work hand in hand with their internal design team, as well as Milwaukee-based architectural firm EUA and local Santa Barbara firm DMHA, to realize their vision. The team explored and priced different design and construction strategies to accomplish the project goals, including refreshing the lobby, updating the corridors, and transforming the 75 guest rooms. After considering various options, a phased strategy was implemented to maintain hotel operations throughout the renovation. The team responded accordingly to effectively and efficiently navigate project details and logistics. From the outset, the design team was tasked with honoring the hotel’s iconic Spanish Revival character while infusing it with coastal touches to achieve a fresh, welcoming atmosphere. Through extensive research and tours, the team members immersed themselves in the Santa Barbara culture to understand authentic influences and the local hotel competition. This process informed the sourcing for the project as Henricksen balanced the selection of custom and American-made furniture manufacturers with the purchasing of art and accessories from local artists and businesses. Design decisions aimed to uphold the integrity of the hotel and highlight details that evoke meaningful guest memories. Preserving treasured focal points, such as the Spanish tile staircase and original skylights in the lobby, anchors the new design in the building’s rich history. Communal areas accentuated these with intimate gathering spaces where people could work, enjoy a coffee or cocktail, and have a casual meeting. In addition to the new bar, 1926, the lobby offers several comfortable seating areas, including a large custom communal table with a stone top positioned on a woven wool rug directly under the skylights. The refined furnishings and well-appointed art and accessories in these gathering areas were designed to foster a sense of place and community. From terra cotta pots, distressed leather, and whitewashed concrete to wrought iron and knotty wood, the earthy colors and textural materials throughout the lobby level achieve a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Live plants and custom art add inviting touches. Henricksen also provided HON furniture for five administrative offices to support hotel operations. As guests transition from the lobby to the suites, they travel through refreshed corridors infused with the essence of Santa Barbara, featuring a faux tin ceiling, new carpet, and hand-painted Spanish tiles for door signage. The elevated hospitality experience culminates in the guest suites. Each room received a makeover with new paint, carpet, custom case goods, lounge furniture, window treatments, lighting, and signature artwork. The Henricksen team worked closely with CIX Direct on the custom case goods, including detailed communication on the antique carved headboard design as well as desk and nightstand needs. Throughout the project process, the color palette evolved from light, airy creams to a moody olive green, a change that achieved stunning contrasts, transforming the guest rooms into cozy, distinctive retreats. From the basketweave carpet and wood beaded lampshades to the sculptural wall hangings and postcard-inspired custom art, the thoughtful attention to curated details delivers on the memorable experiences promised by the boutique hotel brand. “The hospitality experience is classic Santa Barbara reimagined,” described Hotel Santa Barbara General Manager Chris Cline. “It's exciting to show people what's new while letting them reconnect with the timeless qualities they've always loved.” Achieving the desired results required careful navigation of cherished architectural details, California codes, procurement, delivery, and installation logistics, while maintaining a commitment to the local culture and American-made products. The project’s complexity was heightened by the decision to keep the hotel operational throughout the renovation. Furthermore, the location of the hotel on a pedestrian-only street and existing building conditions required creative problem-solving and meticulous project management. For example, due to the small elevator and narrow hallways, the large custom furniture had to be maneuvered through windows, floor by floor, requiring extensive communication and planning with contractors and installation teams. The collaboration and coordination between Henricksen, Level 3 Construction, Hernandez Installation Services, and Service West allowed the team to successfully address scope changes, project challenges, and timeline adjustments. "Our collaboration with Hendricksen was very positive,” said Cline. “They were able to support the hotel through consistent communication of expectations and the understanding of our needs. They showed a great deal of respect for our priority of maintaining a positive guest experience, even when construction was at its peak." “The collaboration with Henricksen has always been so beneficial to us. Their professionalism, communication, and attention to detail fit really well with our organization,” described Griffin. “They were always willing to go the extra mile to help me get this renovation completed. Most importantly, all the work and commitment to our vision have paid off. Our guests relish the unexpected blend of historic charm and modern amenities, and they are activating the new lobby gathering areas we introduced.” Despite the design pivots, schedule pressure, and logistical hurdles, the project’s success was fueled by teamwork, adaptability, and a steadfast client-first approach. The project demonstrated Henricksen's vast network of resources and broad sourcing capabilities, as well as the ability to manage complex projects while delivering the unique solutions required to achieve memorable boutique hospitality experiences. - Meet Auggie Arundel, Account Executive at HenricksenMeet Auggie Arundel, Account Executive at Henricksen
Account Executive Auggie Arundel brings a team-first mindset to every project, building strong relationships and delivering thoughtful solutions across Chicago and beyond. News + Insights Meet Auggie Arundel, Account Executive at Henricksen Account Executive Auggie Arundel brings a team-first mindset to every project, building strong relationships and delivering thoughtful solutions across Chicago and beyond. Feb 19, 2026 For Account Executive Auggie Arundel, success in the contract furniture industry comes down to teamwork, relationships, and showing up with intention. A graduate of Carthage College, where he played baseball while studying communications and public relations with a minor in marketing, Auggie’s career path has always blended people skills with discipline and drive. After college, Auggie began his professional career working in the Chicago Cubs’ sports department, an experience that sharpened his understanding of collaboration, performance, and behind-the-scenes coordination. He later spent nearly a decade in logistics, developing a comfort level with fast-paced environments, problem-solving, and relationship-building. Encouraged by industry connections, Auggie joined Henricksen nearly three years ago, seeing it as the right place to bring his sales experience and network into a new arena. Today, Auggie supports projects across multiple verticals, with a strong focus on real estate and corporate environments. He works closely with brokers, building managers, and general contractors on spec suites and workplace projects throughout Chicago. One recent milestone includes bringing in his first million-dollar project, for a Geotechnical Engineering company, Braun Interec. Which grew from a small Chicago engagement into a full headquarters renovation in Minneapolis. As his role continues to evolve, Auggie is also focused on expanding into the public sector, leveraging long-standing community relationships and a growing pipeline of opportunities. Auggie credits much of his success to the people around him. He works closely with teammates Mike Lewis and Phil Wolverton, drawing on their experience while building his own confidence in leading meetings and managing complex conversations. Supported by Henricksen’s design team, project coordinators, and project manager Dave Clay, Auggie values having a full bench of expertise at his fingertips. “Seeing things firsthand on a job site makes all the difference,” he shares. “That hands-on learning, combined with the team support here, helps everything click.” Staying connected to the industry is also a priority. Auggie actively participates in organizations and events such as CoreNet, some young leaders’ groups, and community initiatives like the Reaumond Foundation. He keeps a close eye on local development through outlets like Chicago Crain’s Business, using those insights to stay informed and engaged as the market evolves. When asked what sets Henricksen apart, Auggie points to the people without hesitation. From leadership to design, project coordination, and project management, he describes a culture rooted in trust, support, and shared success. “It feels like a family,” he says. “Everyone plays for the name on the front of the jersey, not the back. That team-first mindset is something I learned through my lifetime in sports, and it’s exactly what I see at Henricksen every day.” Outside of work, Auggie enjoys spending time with his wife, Julie of four years and their 15-month-old daughter, Georgia. While golf has taken a back seat lately, family trips, weekends at home, and introducing his daughter to sports now top the list. As his career continues to grow, Auggie remains grounded in the values that brought him to Henricksen in the first place: teamwork, curiosity, and a genuine commitment to his clients and the people behind every project.
