This Women's History Month, Henricksen honors Cindy Howery, founder of Studio C Interior Design, for her advocacy in advancing interior designers' careers in Wisconsin. News + Insights Celebrating Women's History Month with Cindy Howery from Studio C Interior Design This Women's History Month, Henricksen honors Cindy Howery, founder of Studio C Interior Design, for her advocacy in advancing interior designers' careers in Wisconsin. Mar 11, 2025 This Women's History Month, Henricksen is honoring remarkable women in our industry, thoughtfully nominated by our employees for their inspiration and impact. Today, we feature Cindy Howery, Founder + Interior Designer at Studio C Interior Design in Madison, WI. Cindy serves as the VP of Professional Development on the IIDA Wisconsin Chapter Board of Directors and is deeply committed to advancing the careers of interior designers in Wisconsin. Recently, with IIDA Wisconsin, she launched the IMPACT ID program, designed to support mid-level career interior designers in identifying their next career steps while helping them develop their communication, creativity, and leadership skills. As someone who considers herself on the quieter side, Cindy especially admires women who use their voices to advocate for their beliefs and effect change. She draws inspiration from the women in her family, including her mother—whom she describes as a born leader—her sister, who bravely speaks out against injustice; and her grandmother, who was a soft-spoken yet fierce leader. When asked about a moment when she felt particularly empowered in her role, Cindy recalled her work on the Domestic Abuse Intervention Service's (DAIS) new home. This project underscored for her the significance of interior design and its capacity to facilitate change in people's lives, highlighting the profound impact that every project can have. As we continue through Women's History Month and beyond, Cindy encourages women seeking to advance their careers to discover what fulfills them, remain open to different viewpoints, be active listeners, and engage respectfully with others. • The Marshall

Henricksen is proud to have transformed The Marshall, a student housing on the University of Minnesota campus, into a space of spirited sophistication. Project Experience The Marshall Minneapolis, MN Project Stats Completed 2023 Location Minneapolis, MN Square Footage Partners & Manufacturers BKV Group, Greystar, Schenk Realty Group, Allermuir, Andreu World, Bernhardt Design, Carolina, Hightower, HON, OFS, Sandler Seating Manufacturers Used Henricksen is thrilled to have played a pivotal role in transforming The Marshall, a privately held student housing complex on the University of Minnesota campus, into a space embodying "Spirited Sophistication." This Minneapolis renovation project aimed to modernize the existing structure, characterized by high ceilings, concrete floors, and abundant natural light, to compete with other housing options, focusing on aesthetics and functionality. Collaborating closely with BKV, Henricksen provided custom furniture solutions and accessories aligned with the design aesthetic, ensuring every piece met the project's design and budgetary requirements. • Philipp Lithographing Co.

Henricksen helped Philipp Lithographing Co, a family-operated business based in Grafton, WI, achieve a modern, professional, employee-friendly office as they embarked on an exciting expansion journey. Project Experience Philipp Lithographing Co. Grafton, WI Project Stats Completed 2023 Location Grafton, WI Square Footage 8,600 Partners & Manufacturers Allsteel, Gunlocke, National, SitOnIt Seating, Design 2 Construct Manufacturers Used Philipp Lithographing Co. (Philipp Litho), a family-owned printing and packaging company located in Grafton, WI, was expanding. The expansion and renovation included a 26,000 square-foot warehouse addition, a 3,600 square-foot office addition, and a renovation of their existing 5,000 square-foot office space. The overarching goal was to create a more modern and professional, employee-friendly office while maintaining a family-run, traditional feel. Their existing office furniture was mostly heavy-duty golden oak pieces from the 1960s and 1970s that no longer suited their way of working. The location also lacked enough conference rooms and meeting spaces to support their growing team and client-facing needs. They did want to retain certain traditional design elements, such as the warm wood tones, but also needed the space to feel modern and efficient. Their new workstations required customized designs to accommodate many printed documents and packaging materials. Philipp Litho selected Design to Construct (D2C) to lead the architectural design and construction of the new spaces. As part of this process, D2C brought in Henricksen to help them create an all-encompassing furniture package for Philipp Litho and worked as a team to help bring Philipp Litho’s vision for the furniture to life. “Philipp Litho’s design vision went hand in hand with the overall style of the building,” said Alaina Bernarde, Interior Designer, D2C. ““We took the time to go through each space to make sure the pieces and furniture layout meet the needs and functions of the end users. We chose wood tones and fabrics for the furniture that coordinated with the new interior finish materials that were specified.” National Waveworks workstations were selected, balancing durability and design. Wood skins were used on the outside of the workstations to match the company’s traditional aesthetic and height-adjustable desks were specified to meet modern ergonomic needs. The private offices were outfitted with Gunlocke chairs and high-end traditional pieces to create a sophisticated yet functional environment. Where possible, Henricksen and D2C’s designers worked with Philipp Litho to reuse existing furniture, such as incorporating some existing seating and reusing the base of a conference table, adding a new top for a refreshed look. The project also included custom touches like a demountable wall system with magnetic panels. These walls encased the conference room, and the magnetic panels allowed the clients to hang up their lithographing plans for their meetings. There also are other architectural walls throughout the space, adding both functionality and a modern aesthetic. The collaboration between D2C, Henricksen, and the client was smooth, with constant communication and quick resolution of any punch list items. Henricksen’s documentation of furniture standards and finishes ensured the project deliverables were clear and helped keep the project on track. “Cammy keeps the client’s best interests at heart,” said Bernarde of Henricksen Account Manger Cammy Harvey. “She is the first person I communicate with on each furniture job. Her attendance at each meeting, whether onsite or at Henricksen, ensures we were making progress. She gets questions answered and searches for the right solution based on her past experiences.” The end result is a new space for Philipp Litho that is both visually appealing and highly functional for current and future employees. • Madison Metropolitan School District

With guidance from Henricksen's K-12 experts, Madison Metropolitan School District renovated its K-12 schools to enhance 21st-century learning environments while preserving historical features. Project Experience Madison Metropolitan School District Madison, WI Project Stats Completed 2024 Location Madison, WI Square Footage Partners & Manufacturers EUA, Allermuir, Allsteel, Arcadia Contract, Diversified Woodcrafts, EKO Contract, Emeco, Grand Rapids Chair Co., HON, IOF, Kimball, National Office Furniture, OFS, Safco Products, SitOnIt Seating, Smith System, VS America, Wisconsin Bench Manufacturers Used Madison Metropolitan School District embarked on a multi-phased renovation project across all of their K-12 schools. The challenge was twofold: updating the spaces to create 21st century learning environments, while preserving the integrity and historical features of these existing school buildings. In addition to maintaining the historical character of the buildings, the district also wanted to create flexible, inclusive spaces that catered to different learning preferences and student needs. They focused on updating common areas such as cafeterias, libraries, and collaborative spaces to mimic a college campus environment, helping students transition more easily to higher education settings. “Our 9-12 educational furniture project spanned five sites and three years, said Alisa Brown, Architectural Assistant, Madison Metropolitan School District “The effort was deeply complex with multiple phases, multiple funding sources, and varied priorities for each site.” Henricksen was selected as the furniture provider for all of the high schools. They worked closely with the Madison Metropolitan School District to develop solutions that addressed the specific needs of each school, while maintaining consistency across the district. Each school had input into the design through community engagement sessions. Henricksen took these insights and provided a range of furniture options. They even set up a sample of classroom furnishings where both students and teachers tested various items before final selections were made. Based on the majority feedback, the Canto chair became a standard choice for classrooms. Flexibility was a core design principle for all the furniture. Classrooms, collaborative spaces, and common areas were fitted with furniture that could easily be moved and reconfigured to adapt to different teaching methods and student preferences. Henricksen sourced furniture from multiple vendors, ensuring a wide variety of seating and table options that could be interchanged between campuses as needed. The design process was iterative, with the user groups—teachers, students, designers, and administrators—participating in the selection of finishes and fabrics. In-person meetings allowed the group to interact with physical samples, helping refine choices. Adjustments were made along the way, especially to upholstery and other aesthetic details, to ensure the furniture reflected the school’s environment and the feedback from users. Recognizing the complexity of fully revamping every space at once, the project instead focused on areas undergoing the heaviest renovation first. “We had no illusion that we could replace every piece of furniture,” said Brown. “We targeted the areas that were getting the heaviest renovations.” Henricksen provided tailored solutions for different areas of the schools, including classrooms, administrative offices, media centers (Library Media Centers), cafeterias, music rooms, special education spaces, and physical education areas. Each classroom features tables with the same laminate, allowing pieces to be interchanged across campuses. While the focus was on modernizing the furniture, thoughtful reuse of certain pieces, such as art tables, was integrated to reduce waste and help stay within budget. “Henricksen walked us through every step along the way,” said Brown, “They delivered a solution that balanced standardization for these grade levels across our district while honoring the specific needs and desires of individual sites. We achieved a modern product mix that advanced our learning environments to fit current pedagogy, while remaining comfortable and relatable for teaching staff. The lookbooks for each school are the perfect guide map, as we move past larger renovations and furniture replacements into maintenance mode. I also really appreciated the involvement our Henricksen team members had directly with site-based staff, and the balance between getting their input and approval with our district-wide requirements and goals.” The installation process, though complex and phased across multiple schools, was a coordinated effort between Henricksen, the installation team, and school administrators. Regular communication ensured that punch list items were resolved promptly, and the entire process was less stressful than anticipated for the district. “Installation was very phased and complicated,” said Brown, “We appreciated Henricksen’s participation in that process.” Madison Metropolitan School District’s renovation resulted in spaces that blend historical integrity with modern functionality. Key spaces, including media centers, collaborative areas, and classrooms, now offer flexible environments that align with current pedagogy and prepare students for college. Students now have access to modern learning environments with flexible seating and tables that can adapt to their needs. The variety of furniture accommodates different learning styles, fostering collaboration and independent learning. Henricksen Unveils Innovative Community-Centric Experience Center in Washington, D.C. Project Experience Henricksen Experience Center, Washington, D.C. Washington, D.C. Project Stats Completed 2024 Location Washington, D.C. Square Footage 9,000 Partners & Manufacturers Allsteel, Corral, Gunlocke, HBF, HON, Kimball International, Normann Copenhagen, OFS, Zilenzio Manufacturers Used Henricksen, a leading national furniture dealership, recently rebranded its Washington, D.C. location, formerly known as COFCO, to align with its national identity. Alongside the rebrand, they also opened a multifunctional Experience Center, designed to be a community hub for networking, collaboration, education, and showcasing innovative workspaces. Their prior showroom space did not provide an ideal environment for clients or employees. It needed to evolve into a dynamic, inviting space that reflected modern work trends and engaged visitors more meaningfully. “A shift in client expectations and market demands has really heightened the need for a space that could serve not only as a display for furniture but also as a community-driven experience center for learning, networking, and collaboration,” said Joan Waters, General Manager, Henricksen Washington, D.C. The Henricksen team focused on creating a space that emphasizes function over form. While the updated Experience Center showcases various Henricksen product lines, the primary focus is on fostering a community-centered environment. The space is designed to showcase a variety of work environments, from traditional workstations to flexible, collaborative spaces, helping clients visualize modern office configurations that encourage productivity and collaboration. When we moved to the new Experience Center, we were branded as Henricksen, but we remained the same team. "Through the design of the space, we aimed to showcase how well we knew and understood the DC market," said Kelly Hogan, Vice President of Operations, Henricksen, Washington, DC. To further support a community-centered environment, the Experience Center was designed around iconic Washington, D.C. locations, representing different working styles. For example, the formal conference room is designated the “Library of Congress” and features rich wood, soft luggage leather, a bust of Washington, and gold frames of the United States presidents and the CEO of Henricksen. In contrast, the all-day café is designated “Union Market” and features industrial lighting and bench seating to reflect the atmosphere of Union Market itself. The new Experience Center is more than just a showroom—it’s positioned as a workhorse space for the community. The Henricksen team emphasized creating a space to host various events, from continuing education units (CEUs) and lunch-and-learn sessions to happy hours and nonprofit board meetings. This approach allows for deeper engagement with both internal teams and external clients, providing a platform for learning, ideating, and networking. “It’s a space for gathering, creating, and learning” said Waters, “helping people understand how to build environments that draw employees back to the workplace” The rebrand from COFCO to Henricksen also allows the Washington, D.C. team to benefit from Henricksen’s national footprint. By integrating into a larger brand, the team can better support clients with multi-location needs, offering a seamless experience across regions. This is particularly valuable for clients ranging from local nonprofits seeking cost-effective solutions to large corporations with offices located across the country. “The brand’s size and scale ensure we can handle projects of any scope,” said Joanna Verdi, Vice President of Sales in Washington, D.C. The new space has already generated excitement internally, with plans to host numerous industry tours, community service events, and educational opportunities. By creating a versatile and welcoming environment, Henricksen is showcasing its product offerings, cultivating relationships, and building a sense of community within the local market. News + Insights Join Us in Celebrating Black History Month With Simone N. Espinet Simone N. Espinet, Business Development Manager in New York, urges the design community to honor Black History Month through mentorship and community engagement. Feb 5, 2025 Join us in celebrating Black History Month with Simone N. Espinet, Business Development Manager in New York. Raised in England and Trinidad and Tobago, Simone developed an early admiration for the stunning architecture surrounding her. Growing up in London, she was influenced by old-world architecture and was first inspired by Sir Christopher Wren's St. Paul's Cathedral. Plus, the Tower of London, Hampton Court, and the many other notable buildings and bridges in London. In Trinidad, she was fascinated by the gingerbread houses and the Magnificent Seven Mansions. The structures were designed in various architectural styles, including French Colonial, Scottish baronial, Indian Empire, and Moorish Mediterranean styles, often blended with Caribbean architecture. This passion deepened when she moved to New York at age 17, where she entered design School. Later in life, she was very influenced by the late Roger Turton, a trailblazing black architect who studied in England and later lived in Trinidad and Tobago, where he designed some astonishing homes. Her favorite architect is Zaha Hadid. Simone calls on the architecture and design community to honor Black History Month through mentorship and giving back. Her efforts include key roles in impactful events such as Henricksen's Celebrating Black History Month on February 11th, highlighting black architects and designers, and the New York Hip Hop Architecture Camp in August 2024, where high school students explored the intersection of hip hop and design. Simone believes that by sharing our knowledge, we can guide young people toward brighter futures. Mentoring and giving back to communities is her passion. As we move through Black History Month, let's take the time to educate ourselves, broaden our understanding, and celebrate the rich tapestry of Black history and culture. • Middleton Pope Farm Elementary

Middleton Cross Plains Area School District addressed overcrowding by building a new school inspired by conservancy land, with versatile seating options, leading to high satisfaction. Project Experience Middleton Pope Farm Elementary Verona, WI Project Stats Completed 2020 Location Verona, WI Square Footage 113,000 Partners & Manufacturers SFI | Systems Furniture Installation, EUA | Eppstein Uhen Architects, Allsteel, Formcore, Humanscale, National, SitOnIt, SitOnIt Seating, VS America, Wisconsin Bench Manufacturers Used The elementary schools in the Middleton Cross Plains Area School District were becoming overcrowded and using temporary outbuildings as add-on classroom space was no longer working to address the issue. Fortunately, a large parcel of land that previously belonged to the Pope Farm Conservancy was donated and enabled the District to construct a new school to serve grades K-4. New furniture was needed for all spaces in the new school and, because they were starting from scratch, they could establish brand new standards that addressed flexibility, accessibility, and collaboration to create a true 21st century learning environment. “We, along with Eppstein Uhen Architects (EUA), interviewed a number of furniture vendors and we chose Henricksen,” said Bill Eberhardt, Building Projects Manager for Middleton Cross Plains Area School District. The team at Henricksen observed teachers in their existing classrooms, and noted what worked and what their challenges were. The spaces seemed cramped and the furniture was not flexible. There was also not much variety of seating for the students who needed alternative options. Henricksen deployed three different pilot classrooms at the existing elementary schools in the district. This allowed the teachers to test out new ways of teaching, as well as ask the students about what they liked and why they liked it before making selections for the new school. Student and teacher assessments of the classrooms was important to the planning process, as they would be the ones spending the most time in these new spaces. “The teachers were really open to trying new things and also got feedback from the students themselves,” said Julie Disch, Senior Interior Designer, Eppstein Uhen Architects (EUA). Multiple meetings were held throughout the design process and Henricksen would present different furniture and layout concepts based on their observations. Eberhardt shares, “They would get a concept down and then bring in the furniture so we could test it out. The Henricksen staff is very attentive. They were very patient with all the different choices and costing options.” The interior of the school was designed around pollinators – drawing inspiration from the conservancy land – and how important they are to human survival. Each grade wing was given a pollinator or plant used by the pollinators to define their area, referred to as a pod. As an example, 1st grade is the humming bird and 2nd grade is bee balm. Those two species really rely on each other. The school uses the conservancy site and the classroom pods to help connect the students to the real-world concepts of prairies. “We picked out ottomans that would create a flower,” said Disch. In the kindergarten wing hexagonal shaped ottomans mimic bumble bee hives. The finishes selected tie into the whole concept of pollinators as well. In the classrooms, there are different tiers of seating, from floor cushions to standing-height wobble stools, and everything is on casters so that even the kids can move the furniture. Disch explains, “The school is really unique because they don’t offer 1:1 classroom chairs for the students. They have about 15 traditional chairs and then use floor cushions and standing-height stools to supplement. They really pushed the envelope when it came to student choice and student preference.” Jessica Taylor, Principal, Middleton Pope Elementary School adds, “the children love the novelty of the shape of some of the tables, like the puzzle shape.” There are also quadrilateral tables, whiteboard tables, and low tables so students can sit on lily pads on the floor that are very popular for the kids and teachers. Outside of the classrooms there are collaboration spaces offering additional flexibility and student choice. “The children have the option to use these spaces beyond the classroom and it’s really fun for them,” said Taylor. “The furniture is comfortable, but durable, and feels homey to a lot of kids and adults.” Allsteel’s Rise tiered lounge pieces were specified for these collaborative areas. “You walk by, and kids are laying on different levels as they are reading,” said Taylor. “The system is really functional but also really comfortable and it gives kids an alternative space to do their work and engage differently.” In other spaces throughout the school the furniture is on casters to promote maximum flexibility. As an example, the bookcases in the library are on casters so that they can easily be adjusted or moved to accommodate new room layouts. The teachers and staff also have height-adjustable desks, and even standing-height tables in all the classrooms. The staff, just like the students, appreciate the versatility of the furniture. At the conclusion of the project there were happy students, teachers, and staff. Taylor shares, “the multi-function of the pieces is really nice. They really thought of everything.” Share Copy link LinkedIn Facebook Pinterest Start Your Project First name* Last name* Email* Company Phone Subscribe to Our Newsletter* Yes No Location (City) Location (State)* State Upload a File (if needed) Upload a File Message* Submit

The overall design aimed to capture a sense of playfulness, boldness, and activity, contrasting with a quieter “introverted sibling” building, which will be developed as part of the project’s second phase. The design vision called for bright, primary colors and lively textures and fabrics, evoking a boutique hotel aesthetic with a post-college feel. Visitors and residents are greeted with an immediate view of the outdoor pool deck, drawing them toward a central hub featuring a bar and an open, inviting atmosphere. “This project created a unique opportunity for me to play with color,” said Monica Coleman, Interior Designer, Cunningham, “which is something I don’t normally do – just playing with patterns and color and finding where to celebrate it.” Henricksen’s challenge was to execute this vision while navigating budget constraints and a tight timeline, all while incorporating custom pieces and art installations that would energize the space. Cunningham’s design team and Henricksen collaborated closely to bring Revelry Apartments to life. After the initial project scope was priced and was found to exceed the budget, Henricksen led a value engineering process to refine the design within budget, making adjustments while preserving the bold, social spirit of the space. Despite the tighter timeline, Henricksen sourced and installed a variety of commercially rated, custom furnishings, including custom rugs and accent pieces. Art installations curated by the Parade Group added a layer of personality, with Henricksen overseeing the installation to ensure the pieces complemented the furniture, palette, and textures selected for Revelry Apartments. Key pieces included gold boucle fabric seating and a yellow-patterned banquette, evoking a mid-century feel that contrasted with darker tones, bringing a sense of playfulness and sophistication. Furnishings became the personality of the space, creating focal points and inviting moments to lounge or connect. “I think Henricksen did an incredible job in moving forward the brand that we wanted,” said Nate Brice, Saturday Properties. Henricksen showcased adaptability, commitment to quality and creative problem-solving during the installation phase of the project. For example, as the project neared completion, Henricksen discovered an unexpected chair rail in a hallway, conflicting with plans to hang artwork. With just two days to opening, the Henricksen team provided three solutions to the problem and implemented the chosen approach, ensuring a seamless finish and maintaining the design intent. “On every project you run into surprises,” said Brice. “Henricksen was extremely adaptive and helped us deal with any curveballs.” Revelry Apartments serves as an example of how Henricksen can balance creativity with practical constraints to deliver spaces that resonate with clients and end-users. Through flexibility, value engineering, and attention to detail, Henricksen helped create a unique, memorable environment that aligns with Madison’s energetic vibe. • Cedarburg School District

Cedarburg School District completed a $59.8M renovation to update its facilities, focusing on growth and flexible learning environments. Henricksen provided furniture for improved collaboration. Project Experience Cedarburg School District Cedarburg, WI Project Stats Completed 2021 Location Cedarburg, WI Square Footage 48,000 Partners & Manufacturers SFI | Systems Furniture Installation, Groth Design Group, Allsteel, Hi5, Humanscale, National, Palmer Hamilton, SitOnIt, SitOnIt Seating, VS America, Wisconsin Bench Manufacturers Used The Cedarburg School District, comprised of three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school, worked with CG Schmidt to complete a thorough master planning process resulting in a $59.8M referendum passed in 2018 to renovate these facilities. Despite a competitive bid process, Henricksen was selected as the District's furniture partner based on experience, price, and an existing trusted relationship; Henricksen had previously worked with the District to update some of their old furniture to more ergonomic and flexible options. The main priorities for the renovations were to manage an increase in enrollment, develop the teaching and learning environments to be more flexible and ergonomic, and enhance safety and security. In addition, the district wanted to create a set of furniture and design standards that could be used across all the schools for consistency.“One of the goals was to create flexible learning spaces, and that’s super dependent on furniture,” said Kirstin Collins, Director of Technology and Assessment, Cedarburg School District. “We also wanted to create a standards catalog, so that when it comes time to purchase again, we know what to buy and going forward everything will look the same.” “There was a lack of consistency across the grade levels and buildings, meaning you couldn’t exchange furniture across those spaces,” said Todd Bugnacki, Superintendent, Cedarburg School District. Most of the existing furniture was difficult to move and reconfigure, offering teachers and students little flexibility.“It was vintage,” said Collins, “A lot of pieces were not in the best of shape and not quite ergonomically correct or the right size for the classrooms.” The planning team attended EdSpaces, an educational furniture tradeshow and conference where they saw presentations from different furniture manufacturers, which helped them narrow in on the types of furniture that they wanted to bid as part of the project. After being selected as the furniture provider, Henricksen helped finish the overall project programming. “They jumped in and gathered more extensive program information from teachers and staff,” said Cindy Gall, Director of Interior Design, Groth Design Group, “They brought in a variety of test furniture and gathered feedback. They also assisted us with specifications, drawings and renderings.” Cindy Gall, Director of Interior Design, Groth Design Group adds, “Henricksen provides exemplary service to our clients. I feel 100% confident bringing them to a bidding list or an interview. Their experience is exuded through and through. I feel great when they are explaining their process to a client, and I know that we have the same vision. They make sure they are an extension of me and my design team.” At the elementary schools, furniture was provided for the library media center (LMC), classrooms, offices, and maker spaces. At Webster Middle School there was an update to the cafeteria space, an office remodel and a new LMC. The High School renovation supplied new classrooms for math and English, small group collaboration spaces, a new cafeteria, a whole new tech education department, new art rooms, maker space, and robotics area. The district has now created a playbook outlining what they were trying to achieve with the renovations. It spells out the “why” around flexible and moveable furniture and will offer teachers templated layouts for certain scenarios, depending on what they are trying to achieve in the classroom. “The book of standards is helping,” said Collins. “It solves the purpose of repairs by specifying who we contact and spelling out the make and model of the furniture.” This enables the new grounds manager or any staff to be able to go the book and see who to contact and what to buy. In addition, standard furniture selections are listed as a resource for teachers and staff to reference when new furniture is needed. All the new furniture is flexible, ensuring there are size options for kids of all grades. Even the library shelves have wheels and can be moved. It has allowed the staff to create a culture and climate that didn’t exist in the prior environment. “We were looking at a way to create an environment that was fully inclusive and provide teachers with greater opportunities to move the student achievement needle,” said Bugnacki. The new spaces allow teachers to explore and better meet the needs of the students. “I see kids doing exactly what we wanted them to do – collaborating and breaking down silos,” said Bugnacki. • Confidential Defense Client

Henricksen delivered tailored furniture solutions for a defense company's new HQ, overcoming pandemic challenges to create a collaborative, efficient space that reflects innovation and excellence. Project Experience Confidential Defense Client Arlington, VA Project Stats Completed 2020 Location Arlington, VA Square Footage 160,000 Partners & Manufacturers HOK, HNI, Gunlocke Manufacturers Used When a confidential defense and engineering company decided to consolidate several regional facilities into a single headquarters, they envisioned a state-of-the-art workspace that would enhance collaboration, optimize efficiency, and reflect their strategic mission. The move aimed to transition approximately 350 employees into a flagship headquarters designed for operational excellence. The new headquarters was intended to centralize operations to increase workforce efficiency, provide an upgraded, Grade-A facility with cutting-edge furniture and interior design that would enhance collaboration and communication among employees, and serve as a flagship space representing the company’s values and future-forward vision. Henricksen was selected as the furniture provider. They delivered a comprehensive furniture package, including Gunlocke Private Office, Allsteel Workstations, and other HNI Products, ensuring that every aspect of the space — from workstations to private offices and collaborative lounges — was thoughtfully equipped to meet both functional and stylistic needs with their “soup-to-nuts” approach. Just as the project was ramping up in early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, disrupting schedules, supply chains, and project logistics. The uncertainty created unique hurdles, from ensuring manufacturing continuity to meeting the strict timeline despite widespread shutdowns. One significant challenge was tied to the company’s choice of Gunlocke furniture, traditionally manufactured in New York. Faced with pandemic-related production delays, the Henricksen team collaborated with executive stakeholders at Gunlocke to shift manufacturing to a more accessible location, ensuring the furniture aligned with the project schedule and design intent. Despite unprecedented challenges, the new headquarters was delivered on time, achieving the client’s vision for a collaborative, innovative space. The custom furniture solutions supported the company’s operational goals and created an environment ready to adapt to the evolving needs of their workforce. By partnering with Henricksen, the defense company not only navigated pandemic disruptions but also set a new standard for their facilities — reinforcing their commitment to excellence and innovation. This rebrand was essential to articulating Henricksen's national capabilities and experience, as well as its new identitiy and committment to the Tennessee market. As part of the rebrand, Henricksen relocated itis Nashville experience center to the first floor of Panattoni’s prestigious 1030 Music Row facility. Just a block from Edgehill Village, this building stands proud as Nashville’s inaugural mass timber frame construction. The relocation gave the team a chance to exhibit diverse work styles that align with the ever-changing corporate landscape. It was critical to present a broad spectrum of work configurations to our clients and empower the Nashville team to work in ways that best suit their needs. The building’s mass timber frame, golden door pulls, and smoked glass lend a hospitality vibe to the overall design, aligning perfectly with local trends. When designing the space, these features heavily influenced furniture and accessories choices. As the first building of its kind in Nashville, Henricksen wanted to present clients with a hospitality-inspired workplace that is both stunning and functional. In a world where hybrid and remote work are the norm, Henricksen's state-of-the-art experience center in Nashville can help clients explore ways to attract people back to their offices.
