Captrust, a long-time Henricksen client, sought to downsize and relocate its Chicago office. Their goal was to adapt existing furniture to fit into the new, more efficient footprint without compromising design or functionality. In addition, “The client wanted to create an inviting space that reflected their brand,” said Courtney Zastrow, Design Manager, Whitney Architects.

The primary challenges included resizing large private office desks to meet building code requirements for the smaller offices and finding a cohesive design strategy that blended a mix of different wood tones and existing furniture styles. Additionally, Captrust planned to redistribute surplus furniture from Chicago to its other offices in Pasadena, The Woodlands, and North Carolina, requiring careful planning and coordination across multiple locations.

Henricksen collaborated closely with Captrust and their design partner, Whitney Architects, to create a highly tailored solution. The approach included modifying existing private office desks to fit new office dimensions while maintaining their quality and appearance.

Surplus furniture was reallocated across multiple Captrust locations, supplemented with new Gunlocke private office furniture and HON workstations where needed, to maintain style consistency.

Hospitality-inspired ancillary pieces were also introduced to enhance the reception areas, break rooms, and collaboration spaces, creating a welcoming and brand-aligned environment.

A detailed "lookbook" created by Henricksen designer Kristin Laudick ensured that each location followed a cohesive design narrative despite variations in reused and new furnishings.

Throughout the process, Henricksen’s project management team played a critical role in coordinating logistics, managing furniture rework, and providing flexible responses to client requests and evolving project needs.

Captrust’s new offices successfully blend efficiency, hospitality, and brand alignment. By thoughtfully modifying and redistributing existing assets while integrating strategic new purchases, Henricksen helped Captrust achieve significant cost savings without sacrificing quality or aesthetic appeal.

The new spaces feel inviting, professional, and comfortable, perfectly supporting Captrust’s goals of creating efficient yet welcoming environments for employees and clients alike.

“Henricksen excelled at project management on this project,” said Zastrow. “Due to the amount of rework of existing product, there were a lot of moving parts to get the project executed successfully. There was a very collaborative approach throughout the process and Henricksen was very accommodating to all client requests and curveballs along the way.”

Captrust now operates with greater space efficiency across multiple offices, all while maintaining a consistent and polished brand experience.
