Since 1962, Henricksen has fostered a collaborative culture dedicated to community and service – and decades of doing so has built an overarching energy of togetherness.

As Henricksen’s Minneapolis team embarked on its journey to find a new home, employees and clients were at the forefront of their minds. Henricksen sought to secure a space with the inherent capability of serving as both an office space and a showroom. One key consideration was the space’s ability to reflect the brand’s mission to create high-performance workspaces that unite people.

To find the perfect space that would help foster connection, Henricksen teamed up with Cushman & Wakefield. After exploring numerous spaces spanning the Minneapolis area, Henricksen landed on an 11,000-square-foot office space in the TractorWorks Building in the dynamic and vibrant North Loop neighborhood of Minneapolis.

“The architectural wrapper, including the ambiance of historic brick and timber, the high exposed wood ceilings, and the abundance of oversized windows with an orientation towards the city’s vibrant streetscape – was an automatic draw to the TractorWorks Building. You can feel the connective energy of it all.,” said Debra Barnes, Vice President and General Manager of the Minneapolis Henricksen office.

Matching the aesthetic allure of the space were the many building amenities offered. The TractorWorks Building quickly became Henricksen’s top choice. With the space identified and the lease secured, Henricksen brought JLL aboard to manage the project. Soon after, HGA, the building Architect joined the team to help articulate the unique interior design goals for the space. Rounding out the team was Mission Construction, who spearheaded the execution of the vision crafted by HGA and Henricksen.

A primary design goal was to create a space immediately welcoming upon entry, akin to welcoming someone into your home. Guests enter to the warm glow of a fireplace and the community gathering space where guests are greeted at a café island that can be converted to a bar, a food buffet, or simply an informal gathering space to set the tone for the showroom experience. The space plan was developed to highlight a circular tour route that effortlessly highlights the many and often revolving product offerings, including flooring materials, lighting, architectural walls, and furnishings.

Throughout the project, it was essential to Henricksen that environmentally sustainable choices emerged, and Mission Construction embraced this intentionality. While transforming the space, they strove to divert materials from the landfill and to retrofit the historic space. Whether hidden pipes, unlevel floors, ceilings, or other out-of-date construction methods, Mission Construction displayed the utmost craftsmanship to finesse a solution to tricky building issues.

During this work, HGA’s team artfully curated the revamped office and showroom to create a space filled with profound, warm energy, celebrating the existing architectural features. Splashes of merlot, rich patterns, and textures keep visitors connected as they move through the space. Radiating from the working showroom’s core is an intentional mix of products featuring HNI brands, including Allsteel, Gunlocke, HBF, HON, Corral, and Normann Copenhagen, showcasing a variety of materiality and functionality in both open and enclosed work settings and collaborative areas, seamlessly pairing new product offerings alongside products relocated from the previous showroom showcasing how new and existing can integrate into a unique and inviting environment.

What resulted was Henricksen’s new office and showroom struck a balance between showcasing the natural beauty of the original architecture of TractorWorks while also allowing Henricksen’s product lines to shine.

“The excitement we feel to provide an experience like this for our employees and clients and to be able to create a community space that our team is proud to show off is extremely rewarding. Our guests, community, and clients’ compliments are gratifying. Everyone was really on board, and it was all so refreshing,” explains Debra.

Worth noting is that Henricksen Minneapolis employees lead the pack with the highest return-to-office rate in the organization. With the space’s new energy that fosters genuine, authentic connections, it’s no wonder why.
