The Landing at Amber Fields in Rosemount, MN wanted to offer affordable housing that didn’t feel like affordable housing. The vision was to create a modern, welcoming complex with touches of warmth and upscale finishes that blended the durability of commercial furniture with the inviting feel of residential design. They partnered with Urbanworks Architecture to bring this vision to life.
Budget and durability were critical factors during the design process. They needed furniture that could withstand heavy use, offered cleanability and long-term value, but still delivered a hospitality-inspired aesthetic.
Urbanworks brought Henricksen into the project based on previous experience and an established relationship built on trust. “I trusted Henricksen to help me fulfill the vision,” said Sarah Davis, Interior Designer, Urbanworks Architecture, “I knew they would have the client’s best interest in mind.”
Henricksen leveraged their established vendor relationships to source furniture from partners like Kimball, National, HON, and OFS for deeper discounts and quick lead times. They also created a large sectional inspired by high-end brands but adapted to a more cost-effective alternative, giving the look of custom without the price tag. Durable upholstery like Purtex, which can be cleaned with water, was selected to ensure long-term performance in high-traffic environments.
Henricksen also provided artwork, accessories, and installation management, ensuring every detail aligned with the design palette inspired by amber fields which was made of golds, honey tones, natural woods, contrasted with blues, greens, and farmhouse-modern accents.
The community room is a flexible hub, with furniture zones that accommodate everything from group gatherings to quiet study, empowering residents with choice. Custom solutions and smart procurement allowed the team to stretch budget dollars further while still achieving an upscale aesthetic.
“The design objectives were met,” said Davis. “The choices and selections were fresh, eclectic and met the cleanability and durability factors while still providing an approachable and inviting aesthetic.”
The Landing at Amber Fields offers a modern and community-focused environment that exceeds expectations for affordable housing. The amenity spaces, leasing office, outdoor patio, and children’s play areas all feel approachable, durable, and inviting. By blending affordability, durability, and design-forward thinking, Henricksen helped create a residential community that feels more like home than housing.
“I have worked with many dealers over the years,” said Davis. “This was easy and stress free and there was a special attention to detail.”
