Sep 18, 2023 Jane Rohde, a well-respected leader in the senior living space, returns to Minneapolis to discuss with senior living designers, developers, and operators emerging trends, today’s challenges, and fundamentals of designing and operating senior living communities. Held on Thursday, September 28th and Friday, September 29th, these discussions will touch on a range of topics including the unique performance and specification requirements, the four comforts, evolving and emerging care models, health and wellness, sustainability, the intergenerational perspective, and the unique needs of owner/operators. Each conversation will conclude with an opportunity for attendees to participate in a Q+A session with Jane. Rohde will also facilitate a roundtable discussion with senior living community and facility operators to uncover challenges in their facilities while encouraging idea sharing, healthy dialogue, and networking within the operator group. “Reflecting on how we can better support our partners at architecture and design firms in the unique senior living space, as well as facility operators, we were quickly reminded of the excitement that our audience had when Jane joined us in January of 2020. We knew we needed to bring her back to Minneapolis,” said Tim Miller, Principal and Vice President of Sales for Henricksen. Henricksen has partnered with H Contract and Lou Reid Associates, Interface, and Fabricut on this program. Each brings a unique product offering relevant to senior living projects throughout Minnesota and across the country. “We’ve chosen to partner with H Contract and Lou Reid, Interface, and Fabricut on these professional development opportunities featuring Jane because they are some of our closest partners across the furniture, flooring, and textiles categories when working on senior living projects.” Henricksen’s senior living specialist and Senior Account Executive Michele Hazleton explains, “We are looking to continue to grow and evolve as a leader of senior living procurement and these key vendors are an important part of that growth.” Designers, developers, and operators are invited to attend these sessions hosted at the Tractoworks Building in Minneapolis: Elements of Senior Living: Lessons Learned – Establishing a strong foundation outlining the specification requirements for senior living, this workshop will detail what makes designing and specifying for senior living communities unique. Jane will touch on sanitation and performance requirements, things like seat height and depth, health, sustainability, and more. This will help designers new to senior living projects to specify projects to properly support the bodies of our aging population. Solution Showcase – There are two opportunities to see new as well as tried and true senior living solutions from Interface, Fabricut, and H Contract. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions, share challenges, and learn more about service offerings. Trends for Environments for Aging – There are two opportunities to hear Jane speak about emerging trends in environments for aging. She will touch on care models, health and wellness, sustainability, the intergenerational perspective, among other topics as well as host a Q+A session following the program. Henricksen is excited to announce the opening of the Washington DC Experience Center and the rebrand of COFCO to Henricksen. The new space will serve as a hub... May 1, 2024 (Washington, DC, May 1, 2024) Henricksen is pleased to announce the opening of their Washington DC Experience Center located on the 5th floor of 1725 I Street and the rebrand of COFCO, a Henricksen Company (“COFCO”), to Henricksen. The Henricksen Washington DC Experience Center will serve as a place for the community and the AEC industry to gather for events, meetings, continuing education, and networking. It will also provide staff with a refreshed work environment that enables them to showcase diverse and innovative ways of working. The new space will facilitate an interactive experience and serve as catalyst for the industry and local community to see workspaces in a different way. COFCO was acquired by Henricksen in 2022 because of an alignment in core values and a shared vision for the future. The rebrand of COFCO, to Henricksen in Washington DC will bring national name recognition to the talented local team and enhance their established regional industry relationships. “When we move to the new Experience Center, we will be branded Henricksen, but we are the same team. We wanted to showcase how well we know and understand the DC market through the design of the space,” said Kelly Hogan, Vice President of Operations, Henricksen, Washington DC. The new space is designed around different iconic Washington DC locations which represent different styles of working. As an example, the formal conference room is designated the “Library of Congress” and features rich woods, soft luggage leather, a bust of Washington, and gold frames of the United States presidents and the CEO of Henricksen. In contrast, the all-day café is designated “Union Market” and features industrial lighting and bench seating to reflect the atmosphere of Union Market itself. “This Experience Center and the rebrand are game changers for us,” said Joan Waters, General Manager, Henricksen, Washington DC. “The space will help our clients and partners better understand today’s work environments and the rebrand will provide more recognition in the market as Henricksen is a prominent national brand.” The Henricksen name will be reflected on all Washington DC materials beginning in May, including bid responses, presentations, invoices, email addresses, and website. “What excites me about the rebrand is having the name recognition and being able to leverage the experience and resources nationally that we need to grow locally,” said Joanna Verdi, Vice President of Sales, Washington DC. The opening of the new Experience Center and the rebrand of COFCO to Henricksen will pave the way for future growth in the Washington DC market. - Celebrating Women's History Month with Jenny Doede from Plan North PartnersCelebrating Women's History Month with Jenny Doede from Plan North Partners
This Women's History Month, we honor Jenny Doede, a leader in construction who empowers women, fosters mentorship, and inspires confidence in pursuing careers traditionally dominated by men. Mar 13, 2025 This Women's History Month, Henricksen is honoring remarkable women in our industry, thoughtfully nominated by our employees for their inspiration and impact. Today, we feature Jenny Doede, Managing Partner and Project Manager at Plan North Partners in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is passionate about empowering women, especially in male-dominated industries like construction, where she helped to build a more than 50% female team. She encourages women to advance their careers by seeking advice from people who have taken risks and are doing the things you want to do, and by creating a personal "board of directors" to guide their professional journeys. Inspired by the support and freedom her parents gave her to explore her path, Jenny aims to foster the same sense of confidence and opportunity for others, paving the way for more women to thrive in construction and related fields. Beyond her professional achievements, Jenny is deeply committed to mentorship and community work. She plays an integral role in WCREW with initiatives like the "Needs and Leads" group, contributes her design expertise to nonprofits such as Pearls for Teen Girls, and volunteers as a part of a therapy dog team with her dog Otis. Whether she's mentoring, designing, or championing inclusivity, Jenny's contributions embody the spirit of leadership and purpose, and we are proud to celebrate her story as part of Women's History Month. As we continue through Women's History Month and beyond, Jenny invites women to build other women up. There is a statistic that women feel like they need to meet 100% of the requirements in a job posting to apply. Jenny encourages women to lean on their lifetime of professional and personal experiences to feel confident than anything they haven’t done before is “figureoutable.” Share Copy link Facebook LinkedIn Pinterest This Women's History Month, we honor Jenny Doede, a leader in construction who empowers women, fosters mentorship, and inspires confidence in pursuing careers traditionally dominated by men. - SCO Genovese Family Life Center
The Genovese Family Life Center renovation created a warm, welcoming environment aligning with their mission to deliver vital human services to the community. The Genovese Family Life Center is a part of SCO Family of Services, one of the largest human services providers in the New York metro area. The agency’s mission is to deliver vital human services to children, families, adults, and the community to provide them with the necessary tools to achieve success. The existing four-floor, 30,000-square-foot facility in Queens was made up of underutilized spaces and outdated furnishings. “Our building was a big maze with lots of twists and turns and old furniture,” said Hayden Blades, Vice President, Facilities and Property Management, SCO Family of Services. For the initial project, SCO hired the architectural firm, Spacesmith, to turn an underutilized basement space into a Center for Professional Development. Determining the project to be a success, SCO then launched a complete building renovation to better meet the needs of staff and clients of The Center. One of the challenges SCO faced with this total renovation was that they had no existing furniture standards. They would buy from different brands and items of various sizes, styles, and quality. According to Blades, they wanted to change this and create standards to improve space utilization and increase overall occupancy. “Spacesmith began designing new space standards, and we knew furniture would play a key role in that effort,” said Ambar Margarida, Principal, Spacesmith. “For the offices and workstations, we needed a high quality, durable and well-designed furniture system.” The initial systems furniture layout needed to accommodate current occupancy levels, but The Center needed to plan for the organization’s expected growth (day two occupancy). Spacesmith invited Simone Espinet, Business Development Manager for Henricksen, to bid on the project. Espinet and her team responded to the furniture bid with components from multiple manufacturers to best suit what was designed by Spacesmith. They presented the mock-up with an installation partner to demonstrate how to retrofit the components in real time. The Henricksen designer also joined the meeting via zoom and performed layout work using CET Designer to showcase how the workstation configurations could be changed, and occupancy could be expanded when necessary. “One of the concepts we saw in the live presentation by Henricksen was the ease of reconfiguration. It was helpful to see how changes could manifest quickly without redesigning the architecture of the space. It was paramount in our decision to choose Henricksen” said Hayden Blades, Vice President, Facilities and Property Management, SCO Family of Services. When COVID social distancing protocols began, the project was in the design phase. The Henricksen team showed how the furniture solution had the innate flexibility to pivot and adapt to new layouts. “We had the flexibility to adjust for social distancing,” said Blades. “Down the road, when things relaxed, we could change the space and increase occupancy as we originally planned.” The flexibility of The Center’s furniture directly correlates to the overall success of its real estate portfolio. Blades continues, “We can expand within this location and add savings to our bottom line.” For example, SCO has closed a smaller office and brought that staff into the newly renovated building. “We were able to add staff without fully reconfiguring the workspace to the day-2 occupancy,” said Blades. “The public space at the center is used for foster care and families affected by domestic violence. It needed to be a safe zone; uplifting,” shares Espinet. To support this, furnishings of various heights, postures, and group sizes were selected for areas where children, youth, and adults could meet and build relationships. “For ancillary furniture, we looked for pieces with high backs and curvilinear designs that could be upholstered in non-woven durable fabrics and incorporate wood elements.” shared Margarida. All items were chosen for durability, comfort, aesthetics, and practical reasons, like flexibility and ease of reconfiguration by visitors. Margarida continues, “We wanted the furniture to feel residential and create a welcoming impression, yet it had to withstand constant use by many diverse age groups.” The new Genovese Family Life Center is a warm, welcoming environment that will accommodate the organization’s future growth. The renovated space will genuinely help the SCO Family of Services complete its mission of delivering vital human services to children, families, adults, and the community. - Join Us in Celebrating Black History Month With Simone N. EspinetJoin Us in Celebrating Black History Month With Simone N. Espinet
Simone N. Espinet, Business Development Manager in New York, urges the design community to honor Black History Month through mentorship and community engagement. Feb 5, 2025 Join us in celebrating Black History Month with Simone N. Espinet, Business Development Manager in New York. Raised in England and Trinidad and Tobago, Simone developed an early admiration for the stunning architecture surrounding her. Growing up in London, she was influenced by old-world architecture and was first inspired by Sir Christopher Wren's St. Paul's Cathedral. Plus, the Tower of London, Hampton Court, and the many other notable buildings and bridges in London. In Trinidad, she was fascinated by the gingerbread houses and the Magnificent Seven Mansions. The structures were designed in various architectural styles, including French Colonial, Scottish baronial, Indian Empire, and Moorish Mediterranean styles, often blended with Caribbean architecture. This passion deepened when she moved to New York at age 17, where she entered design School. Later in life, she was very influenced by the late Roger Turton, a trailblazing black architect who studied in England and later lived in Trinidad and Tobago, where he designed some astonishing homes. Her favorite architect is Zaha Hadid. Simone calls on the architecture and design community to honor Black History Month through mentorship and giving back. Her efforts include key roles in impactful events such as Henricksen's Celebrating Black History Month on February 11th, highlighting black architects and designers, and the New York Hip Hop Architecture Camp in August 2024, where high school students explored the intersection of hip hop and design. Simone believes that by sharing our knowledge, we can guide young people toward brighter futures. Mentoring and giving back to communities is her passion. As we move through Black History Month, let's take the time to educate ourselves, broaden our understanding, and celebrate the rich tapestry of Black history and culture. - Celebrating Women's History Month with Ada M. Tremonte from ada Design Associates Celebrating Women's History Month with Ada M. Tremonte from ada Design Associates
This Women’s History Month, we celebrate Ada M. Tremonte of ada Design Associates for her resilient career, advocacy, and mentorship in the design industry. Mar 26, 2025 This Women’s History Month, Henricksen proudly celebrates Ada M. Tremonte, NCIDQ, IDEC, IDLCPA, IIDA, of ada Design Associates in Pennsylvania. Ada’s exceptional career represents the perfect blend of resilience, advocacy, and mentorship. Her expertise and commitment to empowering others resonate across the industry as she creates inclusive environments where individuals can thrive. Inspired by the generations of women who broke barriers before her, Ada leads with purpose, redefining perceptions of interior design and uplifting those around her. For Ada, advocating for Interior Design has been a life’s mission. She explains, “Interior Design has often been misunderstood—viewed as merely decorative rather than a vital, technical discipline shaping the built environment. People have called it ‘frivolous’ or ‘easy,’ dismissing the depth of knowledge required. But I refuse to let outdated perceptions define me. Instead, I prove them wrong. I am strong. I am skilled. I am creative. I am a problem solver. I am an advocate for this profession. As an educator and a leader, I work tirelessly to ensure that Interior Design is recognized for what it truly is: a field grounded in technical expertise, safety regulations, human-centered design, and innovation.” Through her work, Ada has consistently demonstrated how the field’s depth, complexity, and impact extend far beyond what many realize, challenging misconceptions and paving the way for others to follow. Mentorship remains a defining aspect of Ada’s career as a professional and educator. As the Director of Interior Design at Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, Ada has committed herself to empowering her students to enter the industry confidently and passionately. “I equip them with the technical expertise and strategic thinking they need to succeed—but more importantly, I instill in them the belief that they are essential contributors to the built environment. They are not just designers but problem solvers, innovators, and changemakers. I want every woman I mentor to know that she belongs, that her voice matters and that she has the power to redefine the industry,” she shares. Her deep-seated belief in the importance of mentorship exemplifies her dedication to nurturing the next generation of leaders and ensuring they have the skills and self-assurance to succeed. Ada’s philosophy of persistence and purpose further underscores her leadership. “I believe that adversity is not a roadblock—it is fuel. Challenges are not meant to weaken us but to strengthen our resolve. Everyone faces hardships; if we allow them to fester, they can hold us back. Instead, I have made it my mission to use adversity as a springboard, pushing forward with unwavering determination. A ‘NO’ is never the final answer; finding another way is simply a challenge. Ada explains that trusting our instincts, standing by our values, and persevering are the keys to real transformation,” Ada explains. Her words embody the resilience and vision that have marked her career, inspiring her students and all who meet her to remain steadfast in their goals. Henricksen is honored to spotlight Ada’s remarkable contributions and the legacy she is building within the interior design profession. Her resilience, innovation, and dedication to empowerment are a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when we advocate for our passions and uplift those around us. This Women’s History Month, we celebrate Ada and the countless women who continue shaping, challenging, and transforming our world for the better. May 6, 2024 Meet Brian Homiak, Managing Director of Architectural Solutions at Henricksen Since embarking on his journey at Henricksen’s Chicago office in 2012, Brian has been an integral part of the team, starting his career in the Architectural Solutions Group (ASG), where he initially honed his design skills. Over time, he transitioned to various other roles within the ASG group and has worked in multiple markets. His dedication to his work is unparalleled, and his vast experience in the field makes him a valuable asset to the team. One of Brian’s most memorable projects was at the 110 N Wacker building in Chicago. This colossal undertaking spanned over two and a half years and covered 16 floors in the Wacker Tower. Project partners included well-known organizations like JLL and Bank of America. Brian attributes much of the project’s success to his designers, project management, and Installation team, who worked tirelessly to ensure completion on time and to the client’s satisfaction. Brian recognized the importance of staying abreast of the latest insights and advancements in a rapidly evolving industry. To achieve this, Brian monitors market trends and conducts thorough product research by engaging with those who see the most change firsthand. Much insight comes from dialogues with Allsteel team members to understand how Allsteel sees and responds to the market. Brian also engages closely with the A&D community and General contractors to expand perspective knowledge of the market and understand their experiences, pain points, and solutions. “One of the things that genuinely sets Henricksen apart in the ASG space is our strong understanding of processes and coordination efforts required to execute a walls project successfully,” Brian explained. “Our unique strengths are our team’s knack for effective communication and dedication to improving processes and delivering the best results. Every team member is committed to mastering their knowledge, knowing what we should know and need to learn, and showing a commitment to our clients.” Originally from Detroit, Brian resides in Chicago with his husband, Aaron. Outside the office, his passions are traveling, spending time with friends and family, and distance running. He’s an avid runner and has completed four world marathon majors and ten total marathons. His passion for running mirrors his dedication at Henricksen. Share Copy link Facebook LinkedIn Pinterest Brian Homiak is the Managing Director of Architectural Solutions at Henricksen. - Celebrating Women's History Month with Rosemary Vespo from Global Furniture GroupCelebrating Women's History Month with Rosemary Vespo from Global Furniture Group
This Women's History Month, we honor Rosemary Vespo from Global Furniture Group. Inspired by strong women, she leads with empathy, supports her community, and promotes inclusivity. Mar 18, 2025 This Women’s History Month, Henricksen is honoring remarkable women in our industry, thoughtfully nominated by our employees for their inspiration and impact. Today, we feature Rosemary Vespo, Territory Manager, Dealer Sales – Chicago at Global Furniture Group in Chicago, IL. Rosemary draws inspiration from women in her life and throughout history. This includes historical advocates for change, leaders at Global who foster a culture of support, and especially the women in her family, particularly her grandmother, who emigrated to the U.S. from Italy in her twenties. These women motivate Rosemary to lead with empathy, promote inclusivity, and ensure everyone feels heard and appreciated. Rosemary consistently strives to support those around her, and her peers describe her as embodying the positivity we hope to see in the world. She serves as the Associate Board Co-Chair for Designs for Dignity, dedicating nearly ten years to transforming non-profit environments through pro-bono design services. Throughout her design career, Rosemary has faced several challenges as a woman, including gender bias and the need to prove her expertise to earn respect. Despite these obstacles, she encourages women to trust their instincts, lead passionately, and build confidence in their profession. Recently, she participated in a career day at her all-girls Catholic high school. It was especially rewarding for her to see herself in the students' enthusiasm and to assure them they were on the right path. Inspired by the unwavering confidence of professional rugby athlete Ilona Maher, Rosemary urges women to overcome imposter syndrome and make decisions based on their goals and values. During Women's History Month and beyond, she emphasizes the importance of women uplifting one another, quoting Kate Hodges: “Behind every great woman is another great woman.” Share Copy link Facebook LinkedIn Pinterest This Women's History Month, we honor Rosemary Vespo from Global Furniture Group.
