  • Henricksen and Allsteel’s Cookie Bake Off for a CauseHenricksen and Allsteel's Holiday Cookie Bake Off united festive fun and philanthropy, raising $3,250 and collecting donations to support The Night Ministry's mission for those experiencing homelessness.

Henricksen and Allsteel's Holiday Cookie Bake Off in Chicago raises $3,250 to support The Night Ministry Apr 30, 2025 Allsteel and Henricksen hosted their annual Holiday Cookie Bake Off & Exchange to benefit The Night Ministry. The event brought festive fun and philanthropy together, collecting donations and in-kind items to support The Night Ministry’s mission of providing human connection, housing support, and health care to individuals unhoused or experiencing poverty. It is the second year that The Night Ministry has been selected as the charity partner for the event. As a company that frequently hosts events benefiting local nonprofits, philanthropy is integral to its culture. “It’s part of who we are as a company,” shared Jess Weber, Architecture and Design Manager at Henricksen. Henricksen and Allsteel chose The Night Ministry as their charity partner because they recognize the hardships that winter brings to those experiencing homelessness and want to support an organization making a meaningful impact. The event featured 24 bakers from local architecture and design firms, project managers, and general contractors who created an array of delicious and visually stunning cookies. A panel from the renowned Alliance Bakery judged the cookies on taste and presentation, while attendees could vote for the “People’s Choice” winner by donating. The Bakeoff brought together approximately 120 attendees, fostering camaraderie and holiday cheer while supporting a vital cause. In addition to enjoying the sweet treats, attendees were encouraged to contribute physical items for The Night Ministry’s clients, such as hygiene supplies, cold-weather gear, gift cards, and transit passes. The event exceeded its initial fundraising goal of $2,000, raising $3,250 to support The Night Ministry’s critical programs and services. • Environmental Defense Fund

EDF’s DC Office Redesign Prioritizes Sustainability, Flexibility, and Inclusive Design. A modern move driven by sustainability goals, workplace flexibility, and brand-aligned, nature-inspired design. The Environmental Defense Fund’s (EDF) Washington DC office relocated when its building underwent a transformation, shifting from office space to residential living. This move to a new location provided them with an opportunity to update and modernize their workspace. It was more than a necessity; it became a chance to align their physical office with their organizational values and evolving work culture. “We have a new workplace strategy,” said Brian Attas, Vice President of Corporate Services and Risk Management at EDF, “The idea was to provide more flexibility for different kinds of workers such as remote, hybrid or even permanently in-office employees, giving them the opportunity to work based on their need for focus or collaboration.” Because of the nature of their organization, EDF also had aggressive sustainability goals for their new office. They sought to reduce carbon impact, incorporate recycled and sustainable materials, and maximize the reuse of existing furniture. To achieve these objectives, EDF partnered with the architectural firm Perkins and Will to create a space that embodies their mission and values. “Material vetting is very stringent at Perkins and Will,” said Kate Currie, Sr. Interior Designer +Senior Associate, Perkins and Will. “Finishes were selected with high recycled content, and we have a precautionary list to weed out any health adverse compounds. We look at sustainability through multiple lenses.” EDF also wanted to push the limits with color and vibrancy to match their brand and mimic colors found in nature. They desired to achieve global consistency for future offices while also allowing for certain design elements to be regionally specific. “We emphasized blue and green, which were taken right from their logo,” said Currie, “They also happen to be the two most commonly seen colors in nature.” Private offices and focus rooms have colors that are also part of the branding package with the added benefit of being good for people with color blindness. Perkins and Will designed “neighborhoods,” based on ecosystems local to DC, like developed land, undeveloped land and waterways. These neighborhoods were used to gather, meet and work. The prime areas of circulation were inspired by DC waterways, like the Anacostia River and the Potomac River. When it came time to select furniture, Henricksen was one of five vendors that responded to the RFP and were ultimately selected. They were selected because the furniture options they presented, as well as the overall relationship. “We went on a lot of tours with them,” said Attas. “We were able to sit down with Henricksen and Perkins and Will to really discover what we needed and it was really a matter of trust” Henricksen helped inventory the existing furniture and recommended pieces that could be reused in the new space. In the old location, private offices were located along the perimeter, in a very traditional office layout that monopolizes daylight and views. In the new space, they moved to an unassigned workspace to create an agile and dynamic open plan. Reservable private offices and focus rooms are now located in the interior and every workstation is height adjustable. To support diverse workstyles, the office incorporates a mix of banquettes, bar-height seating, standard-height tables, and lounge areas, catering to different postures and activities. “The space supports neurodiversity by offering variety and choice,” said Currie. “It’s designed for both individual focus and collaborative work.” EDF’s new minimalist, clean workspace prioritizes choice, functionality, and sustainability. The successful collaboration with Henricksen left a lasting impression on EDF, solidifying a partnership for future projects across the country. “They are our provider,” said Attas. “I have complete trust in their ability to deliver. It’s a great fit for us as we continue on this journey.” Currie echoed this sentiment, stating, “Working with Henricksen was amazing. They were always prepared, responsive, and collaborative. The process was smooth from start to finish.” This project highlights how thoughtful design, sustainability, and collaboration can transform a relocation into an opportunity for innovation and alignment with organizational values. • Confidential Defense Client

Henricksen delivered tailored furniture solutions for a defense company's new HQ, overcoming pandemic challenges to create a collaborative, efficient space that reflects innovation and excellence. When a confidential defense and engineering company decided to consolidate several regional facilities into a single headquarters, they envisioned a state-of-the-art workspace that would enhance collaboration, optimize efficiency, and reflect their strategic mission. The move aimed to transition approximately 350 employees into a flagship headquarters designed for operational excellence. The new headquarters was intended to centralize operations to increase workforce efficiency, provide an upgraded, Grade-A facility with cutting-edge furniture and interior design that would enhance collaboration and communication among employees, and serve as a flagship space representing the company’s values and future-forward vision. Henricksen was selected as the furniture provider. They delivered a comprehensive furniture package, including Gunlocke Private Office, Allsteel Workstations, and other HNI Products, ensuring that every aspect of the space — from workstations to private offices and collaborative lounges — was thoughtfully equipped to meet both functional and stylistic needs with their “soup-to-nuts” approach. Just as the project was ramping up in early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, disrupting schedules, supply chains, and project logistics. The uncertainty created unique hurdles, from ensuring manufacturing continuity to meeting the strict timeline despite widespread shutdowns. One significant challenge was tied to the company’s choice of Gunlocke furniture, traditionally manufactured in New York. Faced with pandemic-related production delays, the Henricksen team collaborated with executive stakeholders at Gunlocke to shift manufacturing to a more accessible location, ensuring the furniture aligned with the project schedule and design intent. Despite unprecedented challenges, the new headquarters was delivered on time, achieving the client’s vision for a collaborative, innovative space. The custom furniture solutions supported the company’s operational goals and created an environment ready to adapt to the evolving needs of their workforce. By partnering with Henricksen, the defense company not only navigated pandemic disruptions but also set a new standard for their facilities — reinforcing their commitment to excellence and innovation. • Forest County Potawatomi Community Center

The Forest County Potawatomi built a new 105,000 sq ft community center in Crandon, Wisconsin, reflecting Potawatomi values and culture. Henricksen furnished the entire building. The Forest County Potawatomi viewed the construction of a new 105,000 square foot community center in Crandon, Wisconsin as an opportunity to create a hub for cultural education, recreation, athletic training, competition, wellness and social events for the Community. The building design sought to honor the Forest County Potawatomi values and culture. Natural elements like exposed wood were used and bright colors were taken from the Forest County Potawatomi logo. The footprint even mimics the shape of an eagle in flight. The building was programmed to meet the diverse needs of the community from the elders to the younger generations. All spaces, including the 20,000 square foot gymnasium, 8,000 square foot pool, classrooms, and shared spaces had to serve the entire community. To accommodate this diverse set of users, the furniture needed to be accessible and accommodating. Universal Design – the design of an environment so that it can be accessed, understood and used to the greatest extent possible by all people regardless of their age, size, ability or disability – became a critical consideration. “We kept that at the forefront of our minds for all the furniture in the building,” said Tara Christian, Director of Interior Design at RAMLOW/STEIN Architecture + Interiors. For the community spaces, the furnishings are easily moved, accommodate different activities, and able to withstand use from a wide range of ages. Lightweight and adjustable height seating became the standard. To ensure durability, vinyl and non-woven textiles were selected and a moisture barrier or added coatings were used to ensure they withstood heavy use in all spaces, but especially the pool area. The furniture pieces were also chosen to work with the overall architecture and interior design of the building. Vibrant colors were selected to reflect the colors of the Forest County Potawatomi logo. The workstations and table tops used wood-like finishes to create that visual of wood and warmth on the surfaces. “We made sure that we could include the warmth of wood wherever possible,” said Christian, “Because this space is up in the north woods, nestled in the forest, having wood as an interior finish created a sense of warmth and brought the outside in.” Henricksen participated in design meetings and reviewed furniture specifications and fabric selections remotely because of COVID restrictions. “They had to send all the finishes up to Crandon so we could walk through them over the phone,” said Christian. “They gave of their time immensely.” Henricksen also used the “Designing with You” process on the project, using design tools like CET software to remotely draw and space plan right along with the architectural firm and the client in real time. Henricksen furnished the entire building, including the natatorium, game room, pediatric therapy space, training room, huddle spaces, teaching labs, lobby, woodshop room, child rearing, a community room used for large group instruction, and an administrative area. The administrative space is an open, long corridor. To best fit and serve the needs of the users, adjustable height corner clamp surfaces are used to accommodate base board heating vents. A privacy screen was also installed to prevent the loss of items that would drop under the tables. Christian syas of the collboration with Henricksen, “this project is a really good example of how Henricksen is a full-service firm, they can complete a project from RFP through to the end. They were really attentive and present throughout the process.” Share Copy link LinkedIn Facebook Pinterest Project Stats Completed 2021 Location Lincoln, WI Square Footage 105,000 Partners & Manufacturers Resource One, Ramlow/Stein, Greenfire Management Manufacturers Used Forest County Potawatomi Community Center Lincoln, WI ! • Le Truc Clubhouse

Publicis Groupe's Le Truc redefines office spaces with a creative layout, flexible areas, and unique design, winning the Interior Design Magazine Best of Year Award Publicis Groupe, a global advertising company, recently completed a project that redefines the conventional office space. Le Truc is a unique creative collective housed within Publicis Groupe’s headquarters in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood. Recognizing that the era of the standard office has ended, Le Truc was conceived to challenge traditional agency models and create a space that fosters creativity. Publicis Groupe enlisted the expertise of Architecture Plus Information (A+I), renowned for its work on other cutting-edge headquarters, such as Squarespace and Peloton, to tackle the project. The goal was to attract people back into a brick-and-mortar office environment. Le Truc’s floor plan deviates from the traditional office layout, featuring fewer than 90 desks for an estimated staff of 250. The space emphasizes team rooms, phone booths, sofas, and other flexible areas. A+I’s vision was to create interconnected open spaces for meetings and semi-secluded areas for brainstorming and focused work. Henricksen was responsible for furniture procurement and installation. They worked closely with the client and A+I to create a vibrant and inspiring workspace for Le Truc that seamlessly integrated unique furniture options within its unconventional work environment. The finish selections were selected to complement and enhance the vibrant colors of the interior. The lounges, sunken seating areas, and communal tables encouraged spontaneous interaction and creativity. The layout and tiered seating heights were inspired by outdoor dining and open-air performance spaces that popped up across New York City during the pandemic. The uniqueness of Le Truc doesn’t end with the design; it carries over into the branding and even the naming of the rooms. Several spaces are named after monsters — Gollum, Count Dracula, and Falkor, among others. This approach was intended to inspire creators to bring ideas to life. Henricksen’s role in overseeing furniture procurement and installation ensured that Le Truc was not just a workspace, but a transformative environment that reflected the evolving nature of work in the modern world. Adding to its list of achievements, Le Truc won the Interior Design Magazine Best of Year Award in the Small Creative Office category, further validating its innovative approach to office space design. This award is a testament to the creativity, innovation, and dedication that went into the conception and execution of Le Truc.
